SALISBURY —  NC MedAssist will offer a mobile free pharmacy in Salisbury on Friday.

The program, which is in collaboration with Hunter & Everage Law Firm, is open to any individual or family who needs over-the-counter medications.

Hours will be 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at West End Plaza, 1935 Jake Alexander Blvd. Identification is not required to participate but the recipient must by 18 or older.

Individuals will receive as many as eight medicine-cabinet items for their family. Information will be available on enrolling in the NC MedAssist Free Pharmacy Program. NC MedAssist’s overall goal is to help ease the burden for those who are making the choice between buying food or purchasing medication.

The program is run by volunteers and serves as many as 800 individuals in one day.

NC MedAssist is partnering with Hunter & Everage Law Firm and other safety-net organizations to recruit people to help with pharmacy consultation and as “personal shoppers” and sorters. Anyone who wants to volunteer should visit www.medassist.org to sign up.

There are more than 10,000 people in Rowan County who live below the federal poverty level and do not qualify for insurance. Last fiscal year, NC MedAssist dispensed more than $68.5 million in free prescription medications statewide.
