nLast meeting: R.J. Reynolds won 24-12 in 2008
nLast week: Both teams had an open week
nNext week: Reynolds is home against Mount Tabor; Davie is at West Forsyth
nGame notes: Davie finally plays its first league game in the six-team CPC. Five of the six teams, including Davie, believe they can win the conference championship.
Davie improved by playing a monster nonconference schedule.
It lost to Alexander Central (6-0), Page (5-1) and West Rowan (7-0) before winning three in a row, including defensive-minded victories against Thomasville and Salisbury.
Davie has allowed only 29 points during its three-game winning streak.
Davie junior linebacker Jared Barber (69 tackles) is having another phenomenal season and gets help from DB Zach Long (48 tackles, three fumble recoveries) and linemen Matt Speer, Christian Peebles, Chase Sampson and Justin Miller.
QB Jacob Barber triggers Davie’s offense. He’s thrown for 541 yards and rushed for 320. Joe Watson has 19 catches for 316 yards.
R.J. Reynolds wasn’t very good just a few seasons ago, but coach Mike Propst has the Demons playing inspired football again. They have outscored opponents 205-48 and are ranked in the top 10 in the state by several power-rating gurus.
The Demons held Southwest Guilford to 25 yards of offense last week in an impressive showing.Quarterback Craven Knotts is usually the offensive leader for RJR, which will be on the road for the fourth straight week.
