nGame notes: For what it’s worth, Central was the last unbeaten team in Davidson County, but the Spartans are now on a four-game tailspin that is likely to continue tonight.
Central put up a good fight against Thomasville last week. Throwing QB Kirk Brown is still at the helm of the Spartans, but new coach Mark Hoover has installed a Wing-T offense with mixed results.
Ivan Grijalva led the Spartans with 43 yards rushing last week. The Hornets have taken on K.P. Parks and Shaun Warren, so they won’t lose much sleep over 43 yards.
Central allowed Thomasville’s Kesean Green to enjoy a big rushing night. He had scoring runs of 55 and 87 yards. That could mean big plays are in store for Salisbury QB John Knox and backs Romar Morris and Dejoun Jones. Offensive lineman Ronald Phillips and Phillip Ledbetter will open the holes.
Averaging 31 points a game while allowing 13, the Hornets aren’t a normal 4-3 team. They’ve lost to 3As West Rowan and South Rowan and 4A Davie. Salisbury’s defense is getting tougher by the minute and posted its first shutout of the season last week. ó Mike London
