Area sports briefs: CCC sweep for Salisbury tennis

Hannah Lebowitz (singles) and Erika Nelson-Katelyn Storey (doubles) won all-Salisbury finals as the CCC girls tennis tournament wrapped up Friday in Lexington.
Lebowitz, who was part of a doubles championship last season as a junior, became a three-time CCC singles champion with a 6-0, 6-0 victory against teammate Joy Loeblein.In doubles, Nelson-Storey posted a 6-2, 7-5 victory against Anna Page-Sierra Davis.
n College golf
Catawba has been awarded the 2010 Division II Super Region 2 women’s golf tournament. The 54-hole event will be held from May 2-4 at the Country Club of Salisbury. It will feature nine teams and four individuals.
n College volleyball
Catawba’s volleyball team held off a Mars Hill rally and claimed a four-set win Friday night at Goodman Gym.
Freshman Kaitlyn Whitmer delivered a career-high 17 kills to pace Catawba (12-8, 5-5 SAC) in winning 25-16, 25-8, 8-25, 25-21.
Catawba’s Shay Meeks had 1 kills. Libero Mai Zoua Lo had 25 digs and a pair of aces. Whitmer also added a pair of aces with nine digs and one block.
n Livingstone was swept by Chowan in CIAA action Friday.
The Blue Bears fell to 10-7 overall, 5-7 in the CIAA and 1-6 in the Western Division. Outside hitter Lashaundra Ferguson led the Blue Bears with 10 kills and a .562 hitting percentage.n YMCA sign-ups
Registration for girls basketball (grades 2-8) at the Hurley and West Rowan YMCAs is open until Oct. 25. Co-ed Little Shooters (ages 3-first grade) is also open.
Games are on Saturdays, and the season ends before Christmas.
