High school wrestling: South’s Lambert wins second state title

GREENSBORO — The three-day state wrestling tournament concluded here on Saturday.
The highlight for Rowan County wrestlers was another state championship for South Rowan junior Logan Lambert.
Lambert won the 2A title at 132 pounds as a sophomore. He won this time at 138.
Lambert went 4-0 in Greensboro to raise his record for the season to 34-1.
Lambert won by major decision and technical fall to get to the semifinals. He pulled out a 4-3 decision in the semis. Then he took a 7-2 decision against Fred T. Foard’s Josh Riggs in the final.
Lambert has been committed to wrestling since he was a first-grader.
He first made a splash as a freshman at South. Wrestling at 120 pounds in 3A, he placed third in the state tournament.
South Rowan
South Rowan’s team placed fifth in 2A with 65 points.
113 — Jacob Cox went 4-1 in the state tournament and placed third in 2A. He won a 4-2 decision in the third-place match.
138 — Logan Lambert went 4-0 and won the 2A state championship.
145 — Logan Perry went 0-2 in the tournament.
182 — Michael Sloop went 4-1 and placed third in 2A. He won his third-place match by injury default.
Salisbury
Salisbury finished 21st in 2A with 26 points.
113 — Javon White went 0-2 in the tournament
132 — Michael Lowry went 4-2 and placed fifth in 2A.
285 — Kevion Chunn went 4-2 and placed fourth in 2A.
Carson
As a team, Carson was 27th in 3A with 22.5 points.
113 — Josh Vega went 3-1 and was state runner-up in 3A. He lost a 5-3 decision to Piedmont’s Tripp Collins in the final.
West Rowan
As a team, the Falcons were 44th with 7.0 points.
195 — Baiden Suddarth went 2-2 in the state tournament.
East Rowan
East Rowan’s team placed 16th with 35 points.
113 — Nate Burrage went 4-1 and placed third in 3A. He took a 3-2 decision in the third-place match.
145 — Oren Bost went 2-2 in the tournament.
160 — Stephen Deutsch went 4-2 and place fourth in 3A.
170 — Tayron Frost went 1-2 in the tournament.
A.L. Brown
As a team, A.L. Brown was 32nd with 18 points.
152 — Jaquan Russell went 2-2 in the tournament.
182 — Mason Ingram went 4-1 and placed third in 3A. He won a 6-2 decision in the third-place match.
Davie County
Davie’s team placed eighth in 4A with 65 points.
113 — JT Richards went 0-2 in the tournament.
126 — Bill Trader went 1-2 in the tournament.
132 — Josh Chaffin went 0-2 in the tournament.
145 — Jack Jarvis went 0-2 in the tournament.
152 — Isaac Webb went 1-2 in the tournament.
182 — Matt King went 3-2 and placed fourth in 4A.
220 — Jesus Olmedo went 3-1. He lost a 6-2 decision in the final to Jalen Brooks of Cardinal Gibbons.
285— Andy Flores went 4-1 and placed third in 4A. Flores won his third-place match by injury default.
