Game notes: Mount Tabor’s three losses are to Butler (7-0), Glenn (7-1) and R.J. Reynolds (8-0), which isn’t positive news for the War Eagles. Defensive tackle Chris Manns and quarterback Brad Morton (12-of-28 passing for 266 yards last week) lead the Spartans.
The War Eagles definitely have been exciting with two three-point losses, one overtime loss and just one routine victory. Davie beat Salisbury 10-7 and Thomasville 17-15, so the War Eagles are a few bad bounces away from 1-7 and a few good ones from 6-2.
Coordinator Devore Holman’s defense did an astounding job last week with corners Joe Watson and P.J. Neely matching up in man-to-man press coverage and allowing more teammates to stop the run. Davie shut down West Forsyth’s offense, but a blocked punt helped the Titans.
Watson, NCPreps.com’s preseason CPC Player of the Year, has actually made a bigger impact on defense than offense (24 catches, 378 yards, four TDs).
Davie may have Jacob Barber back at QB this week. A concussion kept him out of last week’s game, and he also missed Davie’s 3-0 loss against Alexander Central. ó Mike London
