Sam Post has had three short plays published in the 2009 edition of the North Carolina Literary Review, which is published annually by East Carolina University and the North Carolina Literary and Historical Association. The issue focuses on North Carolina drama.
Post’s plays are “Love Poem,” “Ignition Switch” and “Responsibility.”
Post is a playwright, writer, publisher and filmaker from Salisbury.
He’s had more than 45 productions of his plays, mostly in Charlotte but also in New York, Minneapolis and Sydney, Australia.
Author at Festival of Tables
Carolyn Digh Griffin, author of “Hope Returns,” will be the featured speaker at the Women’s Festival of Tables Thursday, Nov. 5, at 6:30 p.m.
The festival will be at First Baptist Church, featuring decorated tables. Tickets are $10; tables of eight are $70.
Griffin, who suffers from numerous health problems, retired from Union County Schools and discovered writing was therapeutic. Her book is described as “an explosive faith-based mystery/romance novel that spans several generations of a family in the foothills of the mountains of North Carolina.”

New book of poetry
Bernice Fontaine realized a dream when she published “Reflections from Life,” a collection of more than 400 of her poems.
Fontaine is from Illinois, but her daughter, Linda Van Vleet, lives in Rockwell. The book is for sale for just $10 at the Country Christian Bookstore in Granite Quarry and Wanda’s Beauty Shop on U.S. 52.
Fontaine and her daughter say they published the book mostly for family members. “It’s a lot of life experiences,” Fontaine said.
It’s divided into five categories: Family and Friends, Encouragement, Inspiration, Humorous and Seasons and Holidays. Fontaine loves to write simple poetry of “everyday thoughts” and can write a poem on demand.
