American flag deserves respect
It is, unfortunately, common for used car dealers to use the American flag to attract attention to their business. It is abuse of Old Glory.
What is particularly disgraceful is for them to allow these flags to become dirty, tattered, and faded. One South Main Street dealer has six such flags lining the sidewalk in front of his business. They are filthy and tattered almost beyond recognition. Their continued presence brings shame on our community.
So many Americans have died for the freedom this flag represents. Is there no city or state law that can bring this desecration to an end?

A Halloween tale
Instead of an ordinary letter, I’ve decided to write a Halloween recession tale.
Whle drifting through the dark, spooky world, I heard an owl hoot, “Beware!”
“Owls don’t talk,” I said.
Onward I drifted faster, and than another owl hoots, “Beware! Beware!”
I mutter, “Owls aren’t talking to me.”
As I skip speedily through my life, a third owl hoots, “Beware! Done warned you twice already!”
I stutter, “Talking owls don’t scare me.” Now, I come to my crossroads of living and wonder which path to take. Do I take the left one, the right one or go straight ahead?
All three owls screech, “Doesn’t matter which path you take; there will be something at the end of all of them to gobble you up anyway.”
I say, “I’m making a U-turn to go back where I came from. At least I know what to expect from the spooks and evil monsters of the past.”

Look ahead, Spencer
Spencer is again wasting our taxes needlessly on the library.
Two sitting aldermen (Bishop and Spears) and the town manager have known for some time of the lead paint. Laura Brandt’s now-dissolved, by the town, library committee addressed this issue and had numerous philanthropic organizations lined up to donate monies to not only abate the hazard, but completely renovate it into what could have been a profitable centerpiece for the town.
Now our money is being spent on work she already had accomplished; the paperwork and e-mails still exist that prove this.
Saying they only found out earlier this year is a total falsehood and is an insult to our intelligence. A highly reputable contractor offered to asses the library for free, but the town chose to spend $2,000-$4,000 to have it done. This is only one example of the foolishness that has gone on far to long under reactive non-forward looking town boards. This type of tomfoolery must end. Even if I could have run, as many expected,
I would highly recommend voting Reid Walters for alderman. He possesses uncompromising values, integrity and the foresight needed to get this town back on the tracks. I think you’ll agree it derailed some time ago and the town is viewed negatively by outsiders even though our elected officials seem to think otherwise.
Remember, they work for us, and our taxes continue to be wasted.
The old guard and business as usual must end. Please vote informed and responsibly, not because you know someone. For your continued support, I thank you.
This election, though, please lend it to Reid Walters; he will serve us all and the town’s best interest, not his ego nor pet and wasteful projects.
