Trinity Living Center is now preparing for its delicious new fundraiser, Taste of Abundance. The event is March 18 at Trinity Living Center, 1416-A S. Martin Luther King, Jr. Ave., Salisbury.

A $20 ticket allows the sampling of wonderful soups and a beer and wine tasting. For just $10 more you’ll also receive a beautiful hand-thrown pottery bowl.

My 9-year-old son asked me how soup helps the people at the center. When I explained to him how fundraising impacts our program, the proverbial light bulb turned on in his eyes.

He offered me $10 of his own money when he learned what his dollars could do. Although I turned down his sweet offer, it made me want to explain to everyone how important every bowl of soup is to our program.

Every bowl of soup creates amazing opportunities — the opportunity to offer a safe, social atmosphere to an older adult who lives alone or the opportunity to improve the health of a frail senior by carefully administering medications and serving healthy and satisfying meals. There are also countless opportunities for fun, creativity, rediscovering passions, finding new talents or heading out on new adventures.

There’s even the opportunity to provide a participant with a luxurious whirlpool bath, which might sound like a simple task, but it’s one that takes a huge weight off an exhausted caregiver’s shoulders.
