Carson High School Principal Angelo DelliSanti will move several miles to the south next school year as he takes the reins of A.L. Brown High School in Kannapolis.

The Kannapolis City Board of Education on Monday evening announced that DelliSanti will become A.L. Brown’s principal in June. DelliSanti will replace Todd Parker, who said in February he would leave Brown at the end of the current school year.

Kannapolis City Schools spokeswoman Ellen Boyd said there were five applicants for the job, all external, and the school system conducted three interviews.

Superintendent Chip Buckwell said he believes DelliSanti is the perfect person to lead A.L. Brown High School.

“He is a natural leader who has shown a tremendous ability to reach students and develop outstanding relationships with staff and the community,” Buckwell said in a news release. “He has had success in all his roles as an educator, and he loves A.L. Brown High School. He knows the school extremely well and still has strong relationships in the community.”

DelliSanti began his education career as a teacher at A.L. Brown in 2007. He held several leadership roles there, including Freshman Academy team leader, School Improvement Team member and Superintendent’s Leadership Team member.

In 2012, he moved to the Mooresville Graded School District to become assistant principal of Mooresville Middle School.

In 2014, he became principal of Carson High School.

In that role, he has led the school to “tremendous academic growth,” a news release said. Carson High has maintained a graduation rate of about 90 percent, has exceeded the state’s academic growth expectations for three consecutive years and has increased the value of scholarships earned by students from $750,000 to $7.2 million in four years.

DelliSanti was named the 2017-18 Rowan-Salisbury Schools Principal of the Year.

DelliSanti said one of his greatest goals and dreams was to become principal of A.L. Brown.

“I have spent the last 12 years dedicated to serving students, and I believe the work I have done has prepared me for leading the students and staff of A.L. Brown,” he said in a news release. “I am excited about the opportunity to return to the school where I began my career, and I am looking forward to getting to know the students and staff of A.L. Brown.”

DelliSanti is earning his doctorate in educational leadership at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He received his master’s and bachelor’s degrees from UNC-Charlotte. He also earned the Phillip Morris Educational Leadership Doctoral Fellowship and the Rowan-Salisbury Schools Extraordinary Education Award.

Carson’s student enrollment is 1,245, while A.L. Brown’s enrollment is 1,588, according to the latest data available online from the N.C. Department of Public Instruction.
