‘Taste of Abundance’ fundraiser features local fare

Newcomers host game and card party benefit
Noon-4 p.m. March 26
The Salisbury Rowan Newcomers’ Club will host a Game and Card party with all proceeds going to Food for Thought, on March 26 at the Salisbury Civic Center, 315 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave. South.
Doors open at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $10. Finger foods and beverages are included. There will also be raffle and silent auction items.

AAUW’s Women’s History Month brunch and fundraiser
9:30 a.m. March 30
The American Association of University Women – Salisbury (AAUW) will hold its Women’s History Month Benefit Brunch on March 30, at the First United Church of Christ, 207 W. Horah St.
Guest speaker Salisbury Mayor Al Heggins will present “Building Community with Technology.”
Guest artist is soprano Teresa A. Moore-Mitchell, acclaimed classical concert artist.
Mayor Heggins is founder and owner of the Human Praxis Institute, a human relations firm based in Salisbury that helps organizations and communities create and sustain inclusive and welcoming environments.
Teresa A. Moore-Mitchell is assistant professor of voice at Livingstone College, her alma mater, and is currently writing a one-woman show.
The benefit brunch will help send two local students to the National Conference for College Women Student Leaders in May. Donations are welcome.
The brunch is open to the public. Reservation deadline is March 23 and the cost is $12 per person.

16th Annual Scrabble Scramble benefits Rowan County Literacy Council
6 p.m. April 5
The 16th Annual Scrabble Scramble benefiting the Rowan County Literacy Council is April 5 at 6 p.m. at Trinity Oaks.
Guests will be offered a selection of hors d’oeuvres and desserts and will participate in three lively rounds of team Scrabble competition.
Raffle tickets for a variety of prizes will be available for purchase throughout the evening. Tickets are $30 for an individual or $300 for a table of up to 10 players. Participants may create their own teams or request to be assigned to a team. Cash prizes will be awarded to the winners at the end of the evening.
