SALISBURY — Salisbury’s girls soccer team completed a perfect week with a 9-0 non-conference win against North Rowan at Ludwig Stadium on Thursday.

Salisbury coach Matt Parrish notched his 400th career win. He’s won 233 with the girls program and 167 guiding the boys teams.

Parrish is in his 15th season as head coach of the girls and has a record of 233-58-18. He’s been head coach of the boys eight seasons and has a record of 167-25-11.

Salisbury (6-0) had nine different players score goals. Sutton Webb, Piper Muire, Anna Grace Woolly, Sophie Chmiel, and Sydney Hlavacek scored.

Katherine Sullivan and Clara Brown scored their first goals of the season.

Freshmen Sage Huffman and Madelyn Lawrence scored their first SHS goals.

Lillie Rusher led the charge with four assists. Sullivan, Elle Kennedy, and Abby Campion also had assists.  Caroline Clark recorded her fourth shutout in goal.

Salisbury plays at Oak Grove on Monday.

Salisbury’s girls soccer team won against Central Davidson on Wednesday, 4-3. Muire scored twice, while Hlavacek and Webb scored a goal each. Rusher had two assists. Muire and Webb had one assist.

HS basketball

All-district basketball teams were released by the  NC Basketball Coaches Association on Thursday.

There are 12 districts in the state. A player of the year, coach of the year and  first, second and third teams are chosen for each district.

Rowan schools are in District 11, which also includes Alexander, Alleghany, Caldwell, Iredell, Watauga, Surry, Stokes, Ashe, Davie, Yadkin and Wilkes counties.

Boys

Davie County’s Mike Absher was named coach of the year for District 11.

Davie’s Owen McCormack was named the district player of the year.

Davie’s Michael Walton made the all-district third team.

North Rowan’s Brevin Goodlett made the second team, while Dayjuwon Cooke made third team.

Statesville’s Jeremiah Mott and Jasiah Gathings were third team picks.

Cox Mill’s Wendell Moore Jr. was named player of the year for District 9. Cox Mill’s Caleb Stone-Carrawell was a first team pick.

In District 7, North Davidson’s Themus Fulks made all-district first team, and R.J. Reynolds’ Mysta Goodloe made the second team.

Girls

Four Rowan girls made  the All-District 11 team.

South Rowan’s Janiya Downs was a first team pick, while Salisbury’s Bryanna Troutman, Carson’s McKenzie Gadson and West Rowan’s Abigail Wilson made the second team.

Shaunae Sawyers, a Mount Airy guard who signed with Catawba, was first team all-district.

North Iredell’s Rachel LaLonde and Statesville’s Danasia Gray made the second team, while Statesville’s Tyaysia Sharpe made the third team.

Forbush’s Parkley Hennings was named the player of the year for District 11.

Ledford’s Lyrik Thorne, a guard who signed with Catawba, was named first team for District 7, while Lexington’s Mikenzie Harvin made the third team.

Albemarle’s Zycoria Tillman was named player of the year for District 8, and Albemarle’s Armani Baldwin made the all-district first team.

Gray Stone’s Danielle Wertz made third team all-district, as did Pinecrest’s Sara McIntosh, a post player who signed with Catawba.

In District 9, Hickory Ridge’s Nia Daniel was named player of the year, while Central Cabarrus’ Jael Miller was picked for the second team.

HS baseball

LEXINGTON —  Salisbury romped against Lexington on  Thursday, 19-3, in Central Carolina Conference action at Holt-Moffitt Field.

David Holden pitched two innings and combined with relievers Graham Smith and Nick Peltz on a three-inning no-hitter.

Holden also went 3-for-3 at the plate, scored two runs and drove in two.

Sam Combs doubled twice for the Hornets (6-1, 5-1) and knocked in two runs.

Parker Lippard had two hits and scored twice for the Hornets. Bo Rusher and Blaine Shellhorn belted triples.

South Rowan (2-5, 2-4)  lost another one-run CCC game to North Davidson on Wednesday, 5-4.

Brandon Warlick (2-0) held the Raiders to three hits in the first six innings, and Jackson Perrell pitched the seventh for a save.

Maddox Johnson drove in two runs for the Black Knights (5-2, 5-1).

  Michael Gracer pitched a shutout with 10 strikeouts as Northwest Cabarrus beat Cox Mill in South Piedmont Conference baseball on Thursday, 1-0.

Gracer helped himself by driving in the game’s only run.

Joe Muhonen pitched a one-hitter and struck out eight batters to lead Central to a 2-0 South Piedmont Conference win against Robinson on Thursday.

Concord defeated A.L. Brown on Thursday in SPC play, 8-6.

Jarrad Presutti went 2-for-2 for the Spiders.

Caleb Beaver, Matt Shubert and Chris Allen had two hits each for the Wonders. Beaver knocked in two runs.

HS softball

West Davidson rolled against South Rowan in a Central Carolina Confernce game on Thursday,  8-0. Shiloh Grey pitched a one-hitter for the Green Dragons. Ashlyn Plott had an infield hit for the Raiders in the first inning.

Central Davidson edged Davie County in a non-conference game on Thursday, 6-5. Karli Queen, Caitlyn Sechrist, Shea Woody and Rachel Bostic drove in runs for Davie.

Ellie Goins homered for Mooresville in Thursday’s 5-2 loss to Lake Norman.

Linda Moore led Lake Norman at the plate and in the circle.

Salisbury lost to Oak  Grove in Central Carolina Conference play on Thursday, 14-3.

Ellen Yang  struck out seven for the Hornets and went 2-for-2 at the plate with two runs scored.

Carsyn Parrott drove in a run for SHS. Jaliyah Oats and Alli Tuck also had hits.

Aliyah Compton homered.

HS tennis boys

North Rowan’s boys tennis team rolled against YVC foe South Davidson on Thursday in Spencer, 8-1.

Winning in singles for North were Hans Roemer, Ray Montes, Arizona Day, Jared Hensley and Garrett Jennings.  Winning in doubles were Roemer/Montes, Day/Hensley  and Jennings/Lee Patterson.

Carson won against East Rowan in North Piedmont Conferenc tennis on Thursday, 7-2.

Jacob Horner, Ethen Fesperman, Cameron Dunn, Nathaniel Kimball and Thomas Bost had singles wins for the Cougars.

Horner/Dunn and Kimball/Bost won in doubles.

NPC swimming

Carson’s Malia Hughley,  Olivia Shorter, Taylor Sever, Olivia Weatherby and Savannah Hart made the All-North Piedmont Conference girls swim team, along with West Rowan’s Maris Wainwright.

The All-NPC boys swim team includes West Rowan’s Matthew Gouge and Carson’s Matthew Epley, Cole Dixon, Andrew Sadler, Brandon Yow, Cooper Sever and Simon Foster.

Carson’s Caleb Helms was named the coach of the year.

Swimmers of the year are Salem Haire (North Iredell girls) and Joseph Moore (South Iredell boys).

CCC swimming

Salisbury’s Emily Knorr, Katie Knorr, Calista Erhart, Anna Grace Woolly,  Phoebe Hollingsworth made the All-Central Carolina girls swim team.

Salisbury’s Roarke Burton was runner-up for conference player of the year. Also making the All-CCC boys swim team from Salisbury were Roshen Amin, David Holden and Gabriel McLendon.

South Rowan’s Blaise Bumgarner, Cameron Hurd, Christian Reynolds and Noah Severt made the All-CCC team.

Piper Burton (East Davidson girls) and  Xander Setzer (Ledford boys) are the swimmers of the year.

Rachel Greene (Oak Grove girls) and Brian Wells (North Davidson boys) are the coaches of the year.

  

College softball

Western Carolina’s Hunter Gibbons (West Rowan) has broken  the school record for career RBIs as well as homers.

The senior has 30 homers and 111 RBIs.

It was a tough day for Catawba softball at Whitley Field.

The Indians (11-8) were swept by Bloomsburg in their last non-conference games before starting South Atlantic Conference play on Saturday against Tusculum.

Bloomsburg  (3-6) won 2-1 and 4-3 in extra innings.

Catawba left 13 on base in the opener.

Catawba appeared headed for a split in the nightcap behind Anna Jasper, but Bloomsburg hit a game-tying, three-run homer in the seventh and won in the eighth. Catawba left 11 on base.   

College tennis

Catawba (9-4) fell 4-3 in a tight men’s tennis match on Thursday afternoon to Mount Olive at the Johnson Tennis Center.

Catawba’s women (10-3) claimed a 7-0 victory in tennis action, topping visiting Mount Olive on Thursday afternoon at the Johnson Tennis Center.

   

Mid. school golf

   Salisbury Academy golfers shot 184 and finished four strokes ahead of Erwin (188) at Warrior.

Next were North Hills (212), Southeast (214) and St. Stephens (227).

The Jaguars (6-10  were led by Warren Fesperman and John McCoy. Both shot 43. Also scoring for SA were Gigi Nagy (48) and Hank Webb (50).

Medalist was Erwin’s Jaden Sprinkle with 41.

Kannapolis Komets
