SALISBURY — The Salisbury City Council will consider a resolution in support of proposed alignments for the Airport Parkway project on Tuesday.

The council will meet at 6 p.m. at 217 S. Main St.

A report presented by City Engineer Wendy Brindle says “noted alignments west of Mid-Carolina Airport produce the most impact to residents, businesses and the airport.” Because Rowan County and the city are members of the Cabarrus-Rowan Metropolitan Planning Organization, the joint resolution asks the North Carolina Department of Transportation to consider designing all highway projects with the least possible impact to Airport Parkway.

The resolution asks DOT to consider an alternative to begin the project along Peach Orchard Road and end at the intersection of Jake Alexander Boulevard and Candlewick Drive.

The joint resolution will also go to the county commissioners for approval Monday.

Other agenda items include:

• Mayor Al Heggins will recognize Women’s History Month with a proclamation.

• The council will consider adopting a consent agenda that includes a contract with Alley, Williams, Carmen and King for $154,438.58 for the Jake Alexander and Statesville boulevards sidewalk project; authorizing a contract of $157,708 with Withers Ravenel for the Brenner Avenue sidewalk project; and adopting a budget ordinance for donations to the dog park.

• The Salisbury Youth Council will report on its trip to the National League of Cities Congressional City Conference.

• The Parks and Recreation Department will recognize Salisbury being named a Runner Friendly Community and Gavin Fleming on his Eagle Scout project at Salisbury Community Park.

Before the meeting at 4 p.m., council members will hear the second half of presentations by boards and commissions.
