College softball: Catawba splits Sunday’s non-conference doubleheader

SALISBURY — Catawba split Sunday’s softball doubleheader with the Emmanuel Lions at Whitley Field.
Catawba won the opener, 3-2, but lost the second game, 8-3.
Carlee Brawley drove in Taylor Martin with the deciding run in the fifth inning as the Indians (14-9) took the first game.
Jordan Dean had a run-scoring double early, and Gracie Gibson drove in the tying run after Catawba fell behind 2-1.
Madison Hunter (5-2) pitched six innings, and Brooke Walser earned a save.
Emmanuel (10-11) pounded two homers in the second game. Anna Jasper (0-1) pitched a complete game but took the loss.
Dean hit her sixth homer for the Indians. Gibson and Kaylee Cook knocked in runs, while Brawley had two hits.
Catawba got off to a good start in South Atlantic Conference with a doubleheader sweep of Tusculum on Saturday and returns to SAC action at Queens on Tuesday afternoon.
