Gracie Thomason, Sydney Borst and Hannah Isley scored two goals each for Carson in Thursday’s 7-0 North Piedmont Conference soccer win against East Rowan.

Lindsey Conrad scored one goal.

Salisbury’s soccer team stayed undefeated with a 2-0 Central Carolina Conference win against East Davidson on Thursday.

Sutton Webb continued her scoring streak on an assist from Piper Muire for her 21st goal of the season.

Lillie Rusher finished the scoring on an assist from Webb.

Caroline Clark recorded the shutout in goal and was credited with three saves.

Salisbury got excellent play from Elle Kennedy, Olivia Dagenhart, Lila Harry  and Clara Brown.

Next up for the Hornets is the final non-conference match Friday against Concord. Long-time SHS  boys assistant coach Taylor Strode coaches Concord.

Selma Mehmedovic scored for West Rowan in Thursday’s 6-1 North Piedmont Conference loss to South Iredell.  Mancia Lemus had the assist.

HS boys tennis

North Rowan won against North Stanly in Thursday’s Yadkin Valley Conference match, 5-4.

Winning in singles  for the Cavaliers (7-3) were Hans Roemer, Arizona Day  and Garrett Jennings .

Winning close matches in doubles were Day/Ray Montes and Jennings/Terrance Settlemeyer.

Salisbury stayed undefeated on Thursday with a 9-0 Central Carolina Conference win against Central Davidson.

Ethan McGee, Sean Archer, Leo Schiavinato, Jander Rodas-Palacios, Juan Salazar and Parker Chmiel won in singles for the Hornets (13-0).

McGee/Schiavinato, Archer/Rodas-Palacios and Salazar/Chmiel had doubles wins.

  Carson (5-3) won a non-conference match against Northwest Cabarrus on Thursday, 6-3.

Jacob Horner, Cameron Dunn, Nathaniel Kimball and Andrew Beaver won singles matches for the Cougars.

Dunn/Horner and Kimball/Thomas Bost were doubles winners.

HS basketball

Hickory Ridge’s Nia Daniel was a first team All-State pick by the Coaches Association, while Ledford’s Lyrik Thorne was a third-team pick.

Cox Mill’s Wendell Moore Jr. was selected as the state player of the year for boys basketball.

HS baseball

MOUNT ULLA —  JT Fecteau had three hits and four RBIs, and West Rowan got strong pitching from Catawba signee Daniel Durham to beat South Iredell on Thursday, 6-3.

Durham (3-1) pitched six innings, struck out six and didn’t walk a batter. Carsen Bailey pitched the seventh for a save.

Steven Smith drove in a run for the Falcons (8-3, 3-1) in the North Piedmont Conference game.

It was 3-3 in the sixth. West scored the go-ahead run on a wild pitch. Then Fecteau’s two-run single made it 6-3.

MOCKSVILLE — Davie County scored in the bottom of the seventh to beat West Forsyth in Central Piedmont Conference baseball on Thursday, 3-2.

Davie (12-1, 4-0 CPC) got two hits each from Carson Whisenhunt, Joe Johnson and Hunter Bowles.

Anthony Azar won in relief. Spencer Nifong gave Davie a strong start and a chance to come back.

NORWOOD — South Rowan won Thursday’s non-conference road game at South Stanly, 6-4.

Jarrid Nelson, Jack Weaver and Drew Huffman had doubles for South (5-7), which scored two in the second, two in the third and two in the fourth to build a 6-1 lead.

Bryson Bebber knocked in two runs. Weaver and Nolan Eudy had two hits each.

Winner Eli Hiskey (2-1) held the Bulls (7-6) to two runs in six innings. South Stanly rallied in the seventh, but Kory Moss got the last out  with the tying runs on base.

Cox Mill beat A.L. Brown on Thursday, 6-3, to stay on top in the South Piedmont Conference.

Zach Zedalis pitched a strong game for the Chargers (10-3, 8-1).

Antonio Knight had a two-run double for the Wonders (3-9, 1-8). Austin Lowery had two hits.

North Stanly scored three runs in the eighth inning and beat Uwharrie Charter, 5-2, in a matchup of Yadkin Valley Conference contenders on Thursday.

Northwest Cabarrus scored twice in the 10th inning to beat Central Cabarrus in Thursday’s South Piedmont Conference game, 4-2.

Michael Gracer and Michael Specht were strong on the mound for the Trojans. Joe Muhonen pitched into the ninth for the Vikings.

HS softball

The 2nd annual Salisbury Civitan High School Softball Classic will be held on April 25-26.

Carson, West Rowan, East Rowan, Cox Mill, Central Cabarrus and Fred T. Foard will be in the tournament and the Civitan Club is trying to find two more teams.

HS track and field

South Rowan’s girls won a track meet on Thursday against Central Carolina Conference opponents West Davidson, Oak Grove, Thomasville.

Bailee Elliott won the 1600. Madison Lowery won the 3200. Kira Rymer won the discus. Jahleah Butler won the shot put. Janiya Downs won the long jump and tied with Carlie Moore tied for first in the high jump.

South’s girls also won the 4×100 with a big finish by Downs.

West Davidson won the boys meet. South placed third.

Noah Julian won the 1600 and 3200. Scott Stephens won the 100, while Brenden Finger won the high jump. South won the 4×800.

Mid. school soccer

West Rowan’s boys lost 3-0 to Southeast.  Mason Quarles led the Bulldogs’ effort, along with Blake Pope, Juan Calleja, and goal keeper Juan Arteaga.

West Rowan’s girls won 2-0 against the Patriots.

Defensive standouts for West were Evelyn Kwitowski, Anna Parrish and Gabrielle Wood. Goals were scored by Lesli Guerrero and Brittany Vanhoose.

College track

Catawba’s Darius Turner was named the South Atlantic Conference Outdoor Track Athlete of the Week.

Turner, a freshman from Burlington, posted the fourth best time in NCAA Division II in the 100-meter dash at 10.48 seconds.

In addition to a second-place finish in the 100, Turner anchored the 4×100 relay team that finished second in  41.20 seconds.
