SALISBURY —Salisbury’s softball team won four games last season.

The Hornets matched that total in the last four days, winning against South Rowan on Friday and North Rowan on Saturday before sweeping a Central Carolina Conference doubleheader at home on Monday against Thomasville.

“I do feel like we’re improving every game,” Salisbury coach Scott Cozart said. “It was a good win against South. They’ve got a very good fielding team and they can hit.”

It was a long Monday for the Hornets (6-7, 3-6). They played both games of the doubleheader with Thomasville at home, although they were the “visiting team” for the second game.

Sophomore Ellen Yang pitched both games of the twin bill and had a no-hitter and a one-hitter. She struck out 21 batters and walked four.

The Hornets took the first game, 15-0, in four innings. Only two Bulldogs put the ball in play. Both were bunts that Yang was able to field.

Journie Dawson had a two-run double for the Hornets, while Allie Tuck had a pair of run-scoring singles.

In the second game, the Hornets won in five innings, 15-2.

“We got to take a look at a lot of the girls who don’t play a lot,” Cozart said. “They did very well.”

Opposing pitcher MaKaylee McCurdy hit a line-drive single to center against Yang in the fourth inning and circled the bases when the ball got past Marina Mueller. Thomasville got another run in the fifth after a leadoff walk, a passed ball and two wild pitches.

Yang struck out the side in the second, third and fifth innings.

First baseman KT Blackwell made a couple of defensive plays and had a hit.

Yang and Dawson had triples for the Hornets.

Salisbury plays at West Davidson on Wednesday and at Lexington on Friday.
