Carson’s soccer team won its sixth straight match on Friday, taking a 7-0 North Piedmont Conference win against West Rowan.

The Cougars (9-3-1, 4-0)  got three goals from Gracie Thomason, two from Hannah Isley and one each from Lani Isley and Sydney Borst.

Carson hosts South Iredell (6-4, 3-0) on Tuesday.

HS baseball

Jake Hunter had the  lone RBI for East Rowan baseball in Thursday’s 7-1 loss to South Iredell in Troutman.

Jack Fortin struck out 10 East batters. David Brannen had two doubles and two RBIs  for the Vikings.

East fell to 7-8, 3-3 and is two games behind Carson and West Rowan in the North Piedmont Conference race.

West Rowan  made it eight straight wins by beating South Rowan on Friday  in Mount Ulla, 6-2.

The Falcons (11-3) got a two-run homer from Daniel Durham in the first inning.

South tied the game at 2-all in the third on RBI singles by Hunter Parrish and Kane Kepley.

Cade Bernhardt’s solo homer leading off the fifth put the Falcons ahead to stay.

West scored three more runs in the sixth with J.T. Fecteau, Payne Stolsworth and Lane Adkins getting key hits.

Carsen Bailey was the winning pitcher. South starter Kory Moss took the loss.

South (8-8) had two men on in the sixth and had the bases loaded in the seventh, but Payne Stolsworth pitched out of both jams.

North Stanly’s Rhett Lowder struck out 14 in a 1-0 Yadkin Valley Conference win against South Stanly on Friday.

HS softball

Mooresville clobbered Vance 21-0 and 15-0 on Friday.

Kali Morton pitched a perfect game in the first game.

Olivia Marshall hit a grand slam in the second game to back the pitching of Aubrey Tuell.

West Rowan at East Rowan was washed out and was rescheduled for East on Monday at 5 p.m.

HS boys track

A.L. Brown’s boys track and field team won  against Cox Mill, Concord, South Iredell in a meet at South Iredell.

Josh Parks won  the high jump, triple jump, 110 hurdles and 400 meters. Jalen Neal won the 100 and 200.

Nick Lyerly won the long jump. The Wonders swep the four relays.

Local golf

Steve Hartzoge made a  hole-in-one on No. 10 at Rolling Hills last week.He used a 6-iron on the 140-yard hole.

Bill Hathcock, Bruce Munn and Randy Allen witnessed the feat.

SAC athletics

  The South Atlantic Conference  announced  Limestone College will join the SAC as a full member effective July 1, 2020, following a unanimous vote by the council to approve Limestone’s application for membership.

Limestone will begin competition in all conference sports in the 2020-21 academic year.

The addition of Limestone will increase the number of SAC members to 13 institutions. Limestone has been a football-only associate member since 2016.

College football

Catawba’s annual spring football game will be played today at 11 a.m. at Shuford Stadium.

College lacrosse

GAFFNEY, S.C. — Second-ranked Limestone scored 11 goals in the second quarter to beat 18th-ranked Catawba, 24-7, on Friday.

Catawba (8-3) had an eight-game winning streak stopped.

College baseball

Queens at Catawba was postponed Friday.

The teams will play a doubleheader today, starting at 3 p.m., and a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m.

College golf

Catawba juniors Kaley Barts and Sarah Coltrane  earned spots on the All-South Atlantic Conference women’s golf team.

Barts earned first team honors, while Coltrane was named honorable mention.

Barts has posted a 75.9 stroke average . Coltrane is right behind Barts with a 76.9 stroke average.

Mid school soccer

  The Erwin girls defeated Knox 5-0.

Allie Martin lead the Eagles with three goals. Tatum James and Lindsey Cook added a goal each.

Anna Hedenskog had an assist.  Alyssa Stone recorded the shutout in goal.

Erwin’s boys also defeated Knox 5-0.

Gabe Honeycutt led the Eagles with three goals,  with Ivan Landaverde adding one.  Carter Honeycutt had two assists, with Cole Eagle and Owen Kessler adding an assist each.

Gavin Gullett and Kamden Ridgell combined for the shutout in goal.

Mid. school golf

Salisbury Academy ( fired a 170 to win a tri-match at Rock Barn against Concordia (187) and St Stephens (227).

Scoring for the Jaguars (15-3) were Warren Fersperman (39), John McCoy (39), Drew Aron (45) and Gigi Nagy (47).
