Area Sports Briefs: Carson baseball wins again

CHINA GROVE — Carson’s Aaron Misenheimer pitched five shutout innings in a 4-0 baseball win against Purnell Swett on Saturday. Misenheimer (4-0) allowed only one hit to the Robeson County school in five innings. Ryan Street pitched the sixth and seventh.
Cole Hales scored on an error in the third inning to put Carson (13-2) ahead 1-0.
In the fourth, Luke Barringer had a two-run double and Dylan Driver had a run-scoring single.
Carson plays at West Rowan on Tuesday.

In South Piedmont Conference baseball on Saturday, Northwest Cabarrus shelled A.L. Brown, 15-0, in six innings.
Michael Gracer pitched the shutout.
Jacob Foggin drove in five runs for the Trojans (10-5, 8-3), while Andrew Raffaldt knocked in four.
Intimidators
Lenyn Sosa had four hits to lead the Kannapolis Intimidators to a 6-4 win against the Rome Braves on Saturday.
Kannapolis pounded 14 hits to help Davis Martin get the win. He allowed four runs in six innings.
Local golf
The Country Club of Salisbury is hosting the Wallace Realty-Rowan County Stroke Play this weekend, open to all residents of Rowan County and members of the club.
Participants are competing in a 36-hole, individual gross scored event. There are two divisions — Championship and Senior.
After Saturday’s first day of play in the Championship Division, there are several familiar names at the top of the leaderboard, led by 14-year-old Abhay Gupta at 73. One shot back, at 74, is Brad Vinson, while Keith Dorsett and Kevin Lentz shots 75s, two shots behind.
Tee times for today’s final round will start at 8:50 a.m. for Championship Division.
In the Senior Division, John Kyger is leading the field with a first-round score of 74. Victor Wallace, John Henderlite, Craig Rae and Clint Miller all are tied in second place at 78.

Steve Hartzoge made a hole-in-one on No. 10 at Rolling Hills. He used a 6-iron on the 140-yard hole.
Bill Hathcock, Bruce Munn and Randy Allen witnessed the feat.
College track
Catawba broke six records at the one-day Phoenix Invitational Track & Field Meet held on Saturday at Elon’s Robertson Track & Field Complex.
Catawba’s MeKayla White won the women’s long jump with a school record of 5.88 meters.
Catawba’s Ethan Bemis won the 1500 in a time of 4:03.14. His brother, Logan, was second in 4:08.86.
Catawba will compete at the N.C. A&T Invitational next weekend.
College softball
Catawba split at King on Saturday in non-conference games.
The Indians (19-16) rolled in the first game, 10-1.
Sydney Goertzen went 4-for-4 and Kaylee Cook went 3-for-4 to spark the Indians.
Winning pitcher Preston Ellenberg (5-3) had two hits and three RBIs. Gracie Gibson had two RBIs.
In the second game, Catawba fell 7-1. Carlee Brawley and Jordan Dean had two hits each.
Madison Hunter (9-6) took the loss.
