A Post reader asked for details on the berm or “sandbar” outside Novant Health Rowan Medical Center on Mocksville Avenue and when Novant plans to remove it.

The berm was placed at Novant after flooding on Aug. 1, said Ken Mowery, manager of plant engineering for Novant.

During the flooding, the check-in lobby for outpatient and elective procedures was flooded, Mowery said. The lobby is below street level. Asked by the Post, Mowery said fhe berm is temporary and will remain as long as it is needed to prevent this type of severe flooding from occurring again, Mowery said.

Finishing water reroutes is necessary to prevent the lobby from flooding again. Novant is working with the city to finish these reroutes, he said.

If a contract is confirmed, the berm will likely be removed Thursday, Mowery said. That date is still tentative, he said.
