CHICAGO (AP) — The Boston Red Sox strung together 10 straight hits against Chicago White Sox left-hander Manny Bañuelos, ending one hit shy of the major league record during a nine-run third inning Saturday night.

Bañuelos retired his first eight batters before Christian Vázquez opened Boston’s two-out rally with a single. Xander Bogaerts, Michael Chavis and Eduardo Núñez each homered, Mookie Betts and J.D. Martinez had RBI doubles, and Vázquez capped the streak with another single before White Sox manager Rick Renteria pulled Bañuelos with a 9-1 deficit.

Carson Fulmer replaced Bañuelos and interrupted the hit parade by walking Andrew Benintendi. Betts flew out to right to end the inning after 14 batters.

The Colorado Rockies had a major league-record 11 straight hits during a 17-2 win over the Chicago Cubs at Coors Field on July 30, 2010.

The Red Sox went on to win the game, 15-2.

BUNDY TAKES 2-HITTER INTO 8TH, LIFTS ORIOLES PAST RAYS, 3-0

BALTIMORE (AP) — Dylan Bundy took a two-hitter into the eighth inning, Dwight Smith Jr. homered and the Baltimore Orioles beat the Tampa Bay Rays 3-0 Saturday night for a rare win at home.

In a matchup between the team with the best record in the majors and rebuilding, last-place Orioles, Bundy (1-4) was the difference. The right-hander gave up three hits in 7 1/3 innings, struck out four, walked one and hit a batter.

Bundy had lost 11 of 12 decisions since the start of last August and came into this game with a 6.67 ERA over six starts after allowing nine home runs in 28 1/3 innings.

The victory improved Baltimore’s major league-worst home record to 4-11 and dropped the Rays’ road mark to 12-5, still the best the big leagues.

Bundy was pulled after giving up a one-out double to Michael Perez in the eighth. Right-hander Shawn Armstrong got Willy Adames to hit a comebacker, and the pitcher threw the ball over the head of first baseman Chris Davis, seemingly allowing Perez to score.

But home plate umpire Lance Barrett ruled Adames ran inside the first-base line, called him out and sent Perez back to second base. Armstrong then struck out Brandon Lowe to end the inning.

After Jonathan Villar doubled and scored in the first inning and drove in a run with a force out in the third, Smith led off the fourth with a shot to center off Yonny Chirinos (4-1).

ROLLINS HONORED

PHILADELPHIA — Jimmy Rollins, who played his first full minor league season in Kannapolis for the Piedmont Phillies in 1997, was honored  by the Philadelphia Phillies as he officially retired on Saturday night.

Rollins, 40, who last played in 2016 with the Chicago White Sox, threw out the first pitch and spoke to the crowd, prior to Saturday night’s game against Washington.
