KANNAPOLIS — All are invited to come with their lawn chairs and American flags in hand to the Parade of Veterans and Kannapolis Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 27.
The parade will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of South Main Street and Laureate Way and will end at Veterans Park on Main Street. The following ceremony will be held at noon in Veterans Park.
The ceremony this year will honor Cabarrus County resident Dorothy Cole, the oldest living female Marine from World War II. Congressman Richard Hudson will also speak at the event. Vietnam War veteran Reggie Sadler will sing patriotic songs with The Reggie Saddler Family Singers during the ceremony.
Veterans and their families are invited to attend an open house and reception for Cole following the ceremony. American Legion Post 115 will host it at the Post at 615 S. Main St.
In the case of rain or inclement weather, the ceremony will be held at the Laureate Center.
Veteran groups or individuals wishing to participate, or anyone seeking more information, can call Jimmy Wilson, chairman for the Memorial Day Ceremony for American Legion Post 115 and the city of Kannapolis at 704-794-3417.
