Dorsett Chapel youth fundraiser

Fairview Heights programs
The Outreach Ministry of Fairview Heights Missionary Baptist Church, 704 Old Concord Road, will be at Brightmoor Nursing Center, 610 W. Fisher St., at 11 a.m. Saturday. Speaker: Rev. Clayton Ruggs, FHMBC associate minister.
On Sunday, Fairview Heights hosts its annual missionary program at 3 p.m. on the theme of “My Cup Runneth Over.” Invited speakers include Deacon Larry Vinson of Mt. Musical kickoff at Lakeview Baptist

152nd homecoming at Mount Zion Missionary Baptist
Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 1920 Shirley Ave., will celebrate its 152nd homecoming on Sunday.
At the 10 a.m. service, Rev. James Isaac III, pastor of the New Hope Granville Missionary Baptist Church of Oxford, will be the guest minister.
Rev. Isaac is a graduate of North Carolina A&T State University and has furthered his studies at Southeastern Theological Seminary and Shaw University Divinity School. He currently serves as the Moderator of the East Cedar Grove Missionary Baptist Association. The late Rev. Harry Cowan, a former slave, founded Mount Zion in 1867. Cowan is recognized as a founding father of African-American Baptists in Rowan County and throughout North Carolina. Mount Zion is the second oldest church among African-American Baptists in Salisbury. Rev. Cowan’s contributions have been honored with a state historic marker on North Main Street. Rev. Dr. Nilous M. Avery II is host pastor.

Mt. Zion UCC celebrates 100th anniversary
CHINA GROVE — During the 10:30 a.m. service, Mt. Zion United Church of Christ, 1415 S. Main St., will be celebrating the 100th anniversary of its new sanctuary. The theme for the day is “Rising From the Ashes.” The service will include special music and a focus on the stained glass windows. After worship is a covered dish dinner in the New Building.

Family & Friends day at Boxwood Missionary Baptist
MOCKSVILLE — Boxwood Missionary Baptist Church will host Family & Friends day on Sunday at 11 a.m. The speaker will be host pastor Rev. Gary S. Milton. Dinner will be served after the service.

Men’s Day at Jerusalem Baptist
Jerusalem Baptist Church will celebrate Men’s Day on Sunday during the regular 11 a.m. service. Guest speaker will be Rev. Joseph Parks, retired minister from Winston Salem. Parks served as interim pastor of Shady Grove Baptist Church and is now the supply past of Yadkin Grove Baptist Church. The highlight of the program will be the naming of the 2019-20 “JBC Man of the Year.” Special music will be provided by an all male choir consisting of the men of Jerusalem as well as men from area churches. 8th church anniversary at Rhema Praise
SPENCER – On June 23 at 3 p.m., Rhema Praise and Worship Church, 117 Long Ferry Road, will celebrate its eighth church anniversary. Rev. Shawn M. Bryant, pastor of By Faith It’s Done Ministries, Charlotte, will be the guest speaker. Rev. Alonza Williams Sr. is host pastor.

Mt. Zion Baptist holds ordination service
MT. ULLA — The ordination service for Minister Tangela P. Lane will be held Sunday at 4 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 1765 White Road.

The Piedmont Singing Men patriotic concert
CONCORD – The Piedmont Singing Men will present an all Patriotic concert at Eastside Missionary Baptist Church, 199 Elgin St., on Sunday at 6 p.m. We will be honoring our country, our flags, and those who serve the United States. The concert is free.

Adult series ‘Faith and Science’ at St. Luke’s Lutheran
MT. ULLA — During Bible school at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church, 11020 NC Hwy 801, offers a separate adult series titled “Faith and Science” Wednesdays July 10, 17, 24 and 31, from 6:30-8 p.m.
On July 10, Dr. James Martin will present “Evolution of the Harmony of Science & Religion.” Martin is an author (“Revelation through Science”), organic chemist, and former governor of North Carolina, plus faculty at Davidson College and VP of medical research at Carolinas Medical Center of Charlotte.

NAMI offers family classes

F.A.C.T. reading & science camp
The 2019 reading and science camp sponsored by Families and Communities Together runs June 24-28 from 9:30 a.m.-1 p.m. at First Calvary Baptist Church, 400 S. Long St., Dr. Leamon E. Brown, host pastor.
The theme is “Exploring Our Heritage,” and is free for age 4 to senior adults. Each grade level will focus on unsustained silent reading, reading comprehension skills and phonics. A science component was added this year for all ages. A breakfast snack will be served and lunch is provided by the USDA Summer Lunch Program.
