Weather permitting, the N.C. Department of Transportation will close Goodson Road next week to replace a crossline drainage pipe under the roadway that has been compromised.

Weather permitting, bridge maintenance crews will be closing Goodson Road between Statesville Boulevard and Woodleaf Road at 8 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 1. It is expected to re-open by 5 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 19.

Local traffic will be able to access homes and businesses from either end of Goodson Road, but will not be able to pass beyond the closure points on either side of the work area. Motorists traveling through the area will use Woodleaf Road, Godbey Road and Parks Road as the six mile signed detour route.

NCDOT reminds motorists to watch signs for construction information, stay alert and obey the posted speed limit.

Beginning Monday, Dec. 8, Lower Palmer Road (SR 2343) will be closed in the 1900 block while NCDOT contractors replace the bridge over a tributary to Second Creek.

The point of closure is approximately .75 mile East of the intersection of Upper Palmer Road (SR 2341).

Motorists will still be able to access residences and businesses on either side of the bridge construction area, up to the points of closure.

An offsite detour will be used during the closure:  Upper Palmer Road, Gold Knob Road, Varnadore Road

 The Lyerly Road project was completed Monday, Nov. 24 by NCDOT and Sills Creek bridge is now reopened to traffic. The road closed in July and was scheduled to reopen Dec. 5.
