Area Sports Briefs: Field set for Rowan Masters

The Rowan Masters is set for June 28-30 at Warrior Golf Club.
Defending champion Keith Dorsett is the No. 1 seed.
Nick Lyerly led Saturday’s qualifying with a 70 and is seeded No. 2.
Andrew Morgan (72) and is seeded third, with Shane Benfield (72) fourth.
Brandon Phillips made a hole-in-one with a 9-iron on No. 6 from 175 yards in his qualifying round.
Witnessing the feat were Derek Lipe, Lyerly and Rusty Morrison.

Salisbury’s Michael Childress (Cannon School, Richmond) shot 4-under 68 for third place in a North & South Amateur qualifier held on Pinehurst No. 8 on Saturday.
Seven golfers qualified for the North & South, which will be held June 22-29.
Two rounds of stroke play on Pinehurst No. 2 and No. 4 will be followed by five rounds of match play to determine the Champion.
Lyerly also will be playing in that tournament.
Eight players will be in the field who played in the U.S. Open.
High school softball
All-district teams were announced by the NC Softball Coaches Association.
All-district players are eligible to be voted All-State.
Central Cabarrus’ Riley Tucker, a Catawba signee, was honored as a district player of the year.

The East-West All-Star Games are coming up in July.
The men’s and women’s
basketball games will be played in the Greensboro Coliseum on Monday, July 15.
The men’s and women’s soccer matches will be played at MacPherson Stadium at the Bryan Park Soccer Complex on Tuesday, July 16.
The football game will be played at Grimsley’s Jamieson Stadium on Wednesday, July 17.
Little League softball
Rowan Little League’s 10U all-star won 14-0 against Northwest Forsyth in district play on Saturday.
Rowan plays East Surry for the District 2 championship a berth in the state tournament today.
Pro basketball
Cornell University graduate and former guard for the men’s basketball team Matt Morgan (Cox Mill) has signed a deal with the Toronto Raptors to play in the NBA Summer League.
Legion baseball
Trey Jackson had three hits and two RBIs to lead High Point to an 8-3 win against Eastern Randolph on Saturday.
High Point clobbered Eastern Randolph 12-0 on Friday, with Jake Stroud pitching a shutout. Dylan Dylan Schultheiss and Luke Pritchett homered.

Hunter Sells and Jack Foley homered for Stanly.
Troy Clary had two RBIs for Mocksville. Joey Szvetitz had three hits, Nick Ward had two hits.

Ick Cirino had the RBI for Post 51. Evan McGee pitched a complete game.
