Salisbury graduate Bryanna Troutman has been added to the West roster for the East-West All-Sta girls basketball game that will be played at Greensboro Coliseum on Monday, July 15.

A 6-foot-2 Wingate signee who can play in the post or on the wing, Troutman averaged 16.9 points and 11.0 rebounds as a senior for a 25-5 team.

Troutman’s teammates will include South Rowan grad Janiya Downs (Catawba) and Carson grad McKenzie Gadson (Anderson).

Also on the 10-person West team are Catawba signees Lyrik Thorne (Ledford) and Shaunae Sawyers (Mt. Airy).

Carson’s Brooke Stouder is the assistant coach for the West squad. North Surry’s Shane Slate is the head coach.

The girls game starts at 6:30 p.m.

The West boys basketball all-star team includes North Stanly’s Bryson Childress and North Davidson’s Themus Fulks.

The boys game follows the girls game and will start at 8:30 p.m.

The East-West soccer games are  set for Tuesday, July 16, at MacPherson Stadium, with start times of 6:30 for the girls and 8:30 for the boys.

Concord’s Julia Patrum is on the West girls team.

The West boys soccer team includes Statesville’s Joshua Fuhrman and Ross Garrison.

The East-West football game is set for Wednesday, July 17, at Jamieson Stadium at 8 p.m.

The West football team includes Salisbury’s Cameron Gill, Northwest Cabarrus’ Joe Camara (Catawba), Central Cabarrus’ Hakim Simmons and North Davidson’s Blake Stephens and Maddox Johnson.

Intimidators

KANNAPOLIS — – Ian Dawkins, Lenyn Sosa and Alex Destino each had three hits, as the Kannapolis Intimidators beat the Rome Braves 5-4 on Tuesday.

Rome took the lead in the first when Greg Cullen hit an RBI single and then scored on a two-run single by Jeremy Fernandez.

After Rome added a run in the second on a double by Cullen, the Intimidators cut into the lead in the third inning when Bryce Bush hit a two-run double.

The Intimidators tacked on another run in the fourth when Corey Zangari hit a solo home run.

Wilber Perez (2-1) got the win with three innings of scoreless relief while Ryan Shetter (2-1) took the loss in the South Atlantic League game.

With the win, Kannapolis improved to 7-3 against Rome this season.

Legion baseball

Mocksville secured fifth place in the Southern Division of Area III by pounding Kannapolis 14-6 on Tuesday at Rich Park.

After Kannapolis got a run in the top of the first, Mocksville answered with four in the bottom half and never lost the lead.

Mocksville had 17 hits, including homers by  Troy Clary, Spencer Claus, Joey Szvetitz, Patrick Usher and Nick Ward.

Usher scored four runs. Clary and Ward drove in three apiece.

Justin Chaffin pitched five innings and allowed two earned runs.

Andrew Jones homered for Kannapolis.

Mocksville (10-16, 4-6) wrapped up fifth place. Kannapolis  (6-12, 2-7) will finish sixth.

Concord beat Stanly County 4-3 at home on Tuesday and wrapped up first place in the Southern Division of Area III.

Concord (12-10, 7-2) got two hits each from Maven Parker and Adam Wilkerson.

Parker pitched six innings for the win. Nolan DeVos pitched the seventh for a save.

Concord scored the winning run in the sixth on Parker’s run-scoring double.

Stanly (17-7, 5-5) got two hits from Jack Foley.

Stanly finished tied for third with Rowan County and will be seeded fourth for the playoffs.

Rowan will be seeded third and should start the first round of the playoffs at home on Friday.

Brandon Leonard and Bowen Young combined on a shutout in Greensboro’s 3-0 win against Eastern Randolph on Tuesday.

Nick Leonard, Tyler Smith and Caleb Smith homered for Stokes County in Tuesday’s 11-6 win against Kernersville.

Hunter Hutchens and Noah Robinson homered for Kernersville.

Junior Legion 

East Rowan won 5-2 against Salisbury on Tuesday.

Chance Mako hit a two-run homer for East.

McCall Henderson and Cameron Padgett had two hits for East (15-8).

Tristan Miller was the winning pitcher. Padgett got the save.

East starts playoff action at West Forsyth on Friday and will be home on Saturday in a best-of-three series.

South Rowan will open the playoffs at home on Saturday against West Rowan at 7 p.m.

West Rowan (15-11, 9-3) fell to North Davidson/Oak Grove 9-3 on Tuesday.

Summer softball

Rising junior Taylor Walton (West Rowan) hit a home run for the Carolina Cardinals in a 12-8 win against Nebraska Gold.

The Cardinals are playing this week in a national event in Colorado.

SAC basketball

Newberry named Jason Taylor as its new head men’s basketball coach.

Taylor was head  coach at Anderson for nine seasons. The last four seasons he’s been a top assistant at Tennessee Tech.

Local golf

Sixty GARS members played a Captains Choice at Corbin Hills.

The winning team with a minus-14 consisted of Bernard Caldwell, Tommy Ellis, Franklin Ford and Red McClain.

The second-place team at minus-13 was Ray Pope, Gordon Correll, Rick Fior and Bobby Miller.

Two teams tied for third place with a minus-10.

The team of Mike Sides, Jesse King, Mark Yehl and Chuck Jones won a scorecard playoff over the team of Les Loman, Carrol Downey, Bob Turner and Ted Weant.

Two teams tied for low handicap team with a minus 27.5.  The team of King,  Sides,   Yehl and Jones won a scorecard playoff over the team of  Pope, Correll, Fior and Miller.

Two teams tied for third place with a minus 27.25.

The team of Ben Moore, David Schenk, Norman Schenk and Johnny Graham won a scorecard playoff over the team of Jim Brown, Gerald Osborne, Paul Rogers and Mike Williams.

Winsten Mahaffey won closest to the pin on No. 2  and Mike Williams made the longest putt on No. 9.

Two teams eagled the par 5 No.6  hole —  Petrea, Safley, Bost and Perrell and Goodman, Hammill, Sheppard and Talbert.
