Bethel UMC book bag giveaway
On Saturday Aug. 3, from 9 to 10:30 a.m., Bethel United Methodist Church, 2380 Long Ferry Road, will give a ‘stocked’ book bag to the first 50 elementary students that stop by the church.

 

Tower of Power community cookout
On Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. the Tower of Power United Holy Church, 601 E. Cemetery St., and the NAACP will sponsor a community cookout which will include an NAACP membership drive, voter registration drive, free food, gospel music by the Heirs of Salvation with Cliff Roseboro, vendors, door prizes, speeches and a few school supplies. WWLTC Friends & Family event
CLEMMONS — Whosoever Will Let Them Come Ministries is hosting its annual Friends & Family 2019 on Saturday at 4:30 p.m. at Tanglewood Park in Clemmons (shelter 4). This free event is WWLTC’s largest fellowship and outreach event of the year. This year’s theme is “Letting the World See the Real Church Come Together.” There will be food, free of charge, as well as praise dancers, gospel singing and more.

100 Men In Black reunion concert
SPENCER — Jerusalem Baptist Church, 1570 N. Long St., will host The Youth 4 Christ 100 Men In Black Attire Choir Gospel Concert on Saturday at 5 p.m.
This year’s theme is “Undignified Praise.” All proceeds from this concert will go toward community support of Jerusalem’s Youth 4 Christ organization. This year’s honorees are community leaders Craig Pierce, Tommy Hairston, Chris Sifford, Jason Causby and Angela and Carl Ford.
Soloists for this concert include Odell Gillion, Keith Holland, Eric Holland, George Heggins, Donald Sturdivant, Kenny Abel, Jalen Walker, George Black, Eugene Nunn and Rev. German Boney. Guest directors include Eddie Brown, Emory Susong and Jamaine Smith.
Milton Griffith is the founder and director of the Youth 4 Christ 100 Men In Black Attire Choir. Rev. Dr. David L. Bracken is host pastor.

 

Cedar Grove choir 62nd anniversary
CLEVELAND — The Cedar Grove Gospel Choir will celebrate its 62nd anniversary on Saturday beginning at 6 p.m. at Cedar Grove AME Zion Church. The anniversary will be Saturday only. Brother Chris Sherrill, local preacher at Cedar Grove, will bring the message. In and out of town groups will be participating. Rev. Dr. Bertha E. Pittman is host pastor.

 

The Pathfinders in concert

ROCKWELL — Sunday at the 10:30 a.m. service, The Strings of Victory will lead worship at Lyerly Evangelical Church, 1320 Crescent Road. The Gospel group has toured several East Coast states and some of their performances include music written by group. BTS worship service at the Arbor
The Arbor UMC, 5545 Woodleaf Road, will have Todd Roseman, former member and son of member Lessie Roseman, as guest speaker for a special Back to School worship service at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday. School supplies donated by church members will be blessed and Back to School prayer cards will be collected and prayed over by the United Methodist Men.

Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church, 2865 Enon Church Road, will celebrate homecoming on Sunday. Rev. Arthur Heggins will bring the 11 a.m. message. Rev. John Cade of Files Chapel Baptist Church in Lexington will bring the message at 3 p.m. Lunch will be served at 1:30 p.m.
Revival services will be held Monday-Friday, Aug. 5-9 at 7 p.m. nightly, featuring a different evangelist each night.

 

Backpack service at Immanuel
ROCKWELL — Immanuel Lutheran will celebrate with a Blessing of Backpack Service Sunday during the 11 a.m. service.Students from preschool through college are requested to bring backpacks, book bags and lunch boxes for dedication and blessing.
School personnel such as teachers, assistants, principals, other administrators, secretaries, cafeteria staff, librarians, custodians, and bus drivers are also invited to come for blessing and affirmation. Rev. Bruce Sheeks is host pastor.

 

Homecoming and revival at Oak Grove Baptist
CHINA GROVE — Oak Grove Baptist Church, 1205 S. Main St., will observe its annual homecoming on Sunday at 3 p.m. The speaker will be Rev. Kenneth E. Alexander, pastor at Mount Moriah Baptist Church in Belmont. Lunch will be served at 1:30 p.m.
Revival services will be held Monday-Thursday, Aug. 5-8, nightly at 7 p.m. Monday through Wednesday’s speaker will be Rev. Dr. Robert L. McGowens Sr., pastor at Greater Galilee Baptist Church of Charlotte.

Unity ’N Praise 14th anniversary
GRANITE QUARRY — Unity ’N Praise singing ministry will be celebrating their 14th anniversary on Sunday at White Rock AME Zion Church, 785 White Rock Ave. The program starts at 5 p.m. Special guest will be the Hallelujah Baptist Praise Team. The mistress of ceremonies will be Pastor Alice Houston Perry. Host pastor is Rev. Thomas Lee.

 

FUMC invites community children to sing
First United Methodist Church welcomes all children to join their choir year, beginning Wed., Sept. 4, at 5:15 p.m. The church offers three separate choir opportunities, including Cherub Choir (for children age 3-5),
Novice Choir (for children kindergarten-first grade), and Choristers (for children in second-fifth grades). The choirs will be taught by local music educators Beth Yelvington, Martha Smith and Matthew Michael Brown. Membership at First United Methodist Church is not a prerequisite for participation. The program is free and open to all children.
Cherub and Novice Choirs will use music and movement to teach rudimentary rhythmic and music reading skills. Choirs will also use African drumming, hand chimes and other instruments. Children who participate in choir programs are First Church are taught social etiquette, communication skills, and citizenship by participating in community events such as the annual Tree of Hope Lighting at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center.
