Eleven youth and adults from St. Luke’s Episcopal Church recently completed a three day mission experience at the Episcopal Farmworker Ministry in Dunn.
The EFwM works to support migrant and seasonal farmworkers and their families through immigration services, programs that work towards empowerment of farmworkers, and through advocacy and education.
The St. Luke’s group took part in learning sessions, immersion activities, and a visit to a local farmworker camp where they shared a meal and fellowship with residents.
They also hosted a panel discussion with community members who have been served by the Episcopal Farmworker Ministry, learning first-hand about their experiences and life stories.
Much of their time was also spent assembling a new playground for the EFwM campus, sorting donations, and other volunteer projects.
St. Luke’s member Tori Curran accompanied her two children on the trip. In a letter of reflection presented to the church she stated, “I am grateful for having had this unique opportunity to hear first-hand about the plight of this often times hidden and vulnerable population. It will not be one that I easily forget.”
