Landis explores annexing U.S. 29 in city limits

Landis’ Board of Aldermen approved an initial study that could lead to the annexation of the north and south bound lanes of U.S. 29 from the southern tip to the northern tip of the city’s limits.
“I’m trying to clean everything up,” said Town Manager Reed Linn.
Linn said there have been several traffic accidents with injuries and even a fatality in Landis city limits that Highway Patrol had to respond to because it was technically state property.
“It just took a little bit more time for law enforcement to arrive,” Linn said.
Linn also recommended that a parcel of property annexed in October be zoned for general business, which is the same as the surrounding properties.
The property is located along U.S. 29, just south of the Sonic Drive-in restaurant and East of the Ralph Linn property. The property, which is less than five acres, connects Landis city limits to the Ralph Linn property, which has been a satellite property for the past 25 years.
Mayor James Furr said the proposition “certainly seems like a reasonable and lgical conclusion.”
A public hearing about the property’s zoning will be held at Landis’ next regular meeting in January.
