SALISBURY — The Catawba College Chiefs Club, celebrating its 43rd year, has kicked off its 2019-20 membership campaign.
Jeff Childress, Catawba’s Associate Athletic Director for Athletic Development, said that the club wants to improve on its over 500 members. This year’s goal is 600.
“Our Catawba Chiefs Club helps to support our 520 student athletes, 117 athletic scholarships, and our 23 varsity teams at Catawba,” said Childress, also the club’s director. “Our Chiefs Club has grown the past two years to over 500 members, which says a lot about the support and interest we have for Catawba Athletics.
“I am very thankful that we have a very strong, active, and involved Chiefs Club Board. The success of our club the past two years is largely due to the members and leadership of our board,” continued Childress.
The club offers seven different levels of contribution, ranging from $100 to $5,000. A person can join at the Indian level for $100, followed by: Chief ($200), War ($300), Tribal ($600), Super Chief ($1,000), Golden Chief ($2,500) and Platinum Chief ($5,000).
Some of the benefits available to members include items like Catawba athletic apparel, discounts (10 percent) at the Catawba bookstore, home football pre-game hospitality, home basketball halftime hospitality, tickets to the annual athletics dinner and auction, reserved and named parking space at home football games, a sideline experience at a football game, courtside seating at home basketball, among others.
The higher the level of contribution, members can enjoy more benefits. All levels do include a tax deduction.
Football season ticket priority begins at the War Chief level. Catawba has five home football games this fall — Sept. 7 (West Georgia), Sept. 28 (Wingate), Oct. 19 (Newberry), Oct. 26 (Mars Hill/Homecoming) and Nov. 16 (Lenoir-Rhyne/Hall of Fame Weekend).
Childress emphasized that the Chiefs Club does indeed support all 23 varsity squads at the college. The teams participate in the South Atlantic Conference and NCAA Division II.
