SALISBURY — The Carolina Bohemian Jam outdoor festival will celebrate hippie culture with arts and music Aug. 16-18 at the Rowan County Fairgrounds.

The festival will include an arts exhibition, food and live music.

“We have a lot of tribute bands that will perform,” said Garrett Barger, the festival promoter.

A lot of the bands look and sound just like the original artists, Barger said. Anyone who never went to a Jimi Hendrix show is going to have a great experience, he said.

The bands are tributes to 1960s and 1970s bands such as Hendrix, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Jefferson Airplane, The Who and others.

“We have a bunch of local artists that will be performing as well,” Barger said.

Food at the festival will include pork chop sandwiches, funnel cakes, fried Oreos, Mexican dishes, red velvet cake, cheesecake and ice cream.

“We intend on doing this stuff every year. We want it to grow. We want it to help grow Salisbury and put Salisbury on the map,” Barger said.

“We’re doing everything we can to get the message out there and raise awareness so people can come,” he said.

Carolina Bohemian Jam coined its theme as a Woodstock tribute festival and will showcase handcrafted gifts.

“If you’re looking for something original (to purchase), there is a good chance that one of our handcrafters has made it. We will have many unique gifts — acrylic type jewelry, a wide range of things,” Barger said.

Tickets for Carolina Bohemian Jam are available on www.eventbrite.com. They are priced at $5 for Aug. 16; $10 for Aug. 17; and $10 for Aug. 18. Three-day tickets are $20 in advance.

Tickets will be $5 extra if purchased the day of the festival or at the door.

Festival hours are 4-11 p.m. Aug. 16; 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Aug. 17; and 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 18.
