Stoplight needed in front of Walmart
I am beginning to really wonder how many holidays it will take for the city of Salisbury to realize a stoplight is needed at Freeland Drive and Arlington Boulevard.
I see near misses of accidents every time I go to Walmart or one of the other shops. Come on! The traffic is horrendous on a normal day. It will be horrible during the holidays. Let’s put a traffic light up for Rowan County.

Let health reform die
The House of Representatives that voted for the health care that was up before them in Washington have bought into something that is totally detrimental to our nation.
The government should not be in control of this. Look at other nations that use governmant health-care plans. The government does not care about the people and their needs. It cares about control and money.
Now, with having it go to the Senate, this is another dangerous attempt of the Executive Branch to persuade and push its agenda. Not the American people’s, who need less tax and more freedom to pursue the life, liberty and happiness provided in our constitution.
Promises to senators for monies for their states if they vote this bill into law are totally wrong, and it is wrong for them to even consider doing it. Don’t take money for voting.
It is not a good bill. There are too many inclusions that are not going to be good, and it costs too much. All around, this is a dangerous road to start to go down.
Our country is basically bankrupt. Do not add to the disaster. Take the people at AARP; they know this is a bad bill, but they are for it because they know that the bill will promote people having to buy a lot of supplemental insurance from them because of the changes for Medicare costs. Older people will have to pay more for less, and that just should not be.
A few years back when Hillary brought up health care, it was laughed away and it wasn’t even as bad as this thing out there now. I don’t even hear her for it.
This is truly a bad choice to play with for the American people. Detrimental. Let it die before something goes too far.

A teacher responds
I am a teacher at East Rowan High School. I read with extreme disgust the disrespectful blurtings Bryce Beard made at the Monday night school board meeting.
You need to know, Mr. Beard, that as an educator I take my job very seriously and recognize the gravity my position entails. Just because I am not at Salisbury does not mean I do not spend countless hours planning, developing new lessons and activities that reach all of our “at promise” (not at risk) students, staying with children after school for remediation, or mentoring them so they grow into productive adults.
Just because my school is not Salisbury and my principal is not Windsor Eagle does not mean my students are held to a lower standard, my students are not required to display proper discipline, or that some students are allowed to fail because we have low expectations.
Mr. Beard, you need to know that I have devoted my life to education, and you have no right to use your position to pontificate about issues you are obviously ignorant of and have not investigated.
It is your job as our school board representative to ensure that all students throughout Rowan County are provided quality educations and the equal opportunities to excel in their future endeavors. If you can honestly blurt that Salisbury is the best school because its staff or principal works harder, then shame on you for not requiring all schools within Rowan County to perform to the same standard. You, as a school board member, should only be concerned with ensuring that all students, no matter where they live or go to school, can receive the best education my tax dollars can buy and that our children rightfully deserve. Your comments denigrated all teachers in Rowan County.
