A dead skunk tested positive for Rowan County’s 20th rabies case of the year.
A dog that came in contact with the skunk has been euthanized, Rowan County Animal Control said.
Scott Butler, of 1180 Leonard Road, reported to Animal Control on Nov. 23 that he discovered the dead skunk in the area where he kept his dog, a boxer/pit bull mix named Diesel.
The dog was not current on his rabies vaccination and was held in quarantine at the Rowan County Animal Shelter while the skunk was submitted for testing. When the test came back positive for rabies on Nov. 25, the Animal Shelter euthanized Diesel at his owner’s request, Animal Control said.
