Traffic backs up at South Rowan
I’m a junior at South Rowan High School who has tremendous school spirit. However, there are some problems that need to be addressed.
With the recent construction of Jesse C. Carson High School, most of the students attending South Rowan live in Landis. These students have the luxury of making a right turn into the busy South Rowan parking lot. Meanwhile, the students who come from China Grove have to turn left into the parking lot, meaning that they have to wait for someone to be kind and let them in, since there is no longer anyone directing traffic in the morning.
Unfortunately, most people can’t be bothered to take a few seconds out of their day and allow someone to go ahead of them. Several times this year, traffic from China Grove has been backed up past Kimball Road.
Why not just build a second entrance that students from China Grove can use?
Oh wait, there already is one ó that the administration chooses to block with wooden barricades.
If we assume half of the 1,000 students at South Rowan drive to school, each paying $50 every year for a parking permit, the school makes $25,000 annually on parking permits alone.
Call me crazy, but that seems like more than enough money to pay someone to direct traffic 30 minutes out of the day.
While we’re on the subject of traffic issues, why not remove the sign prohibiting left-hand turns out of the parking lot if it’s not going to be enforced?
Or better yet, someone could actually enforce it!

China Grove
Poll frustration
I was reading the Salisbury Post Friday, and it had a poll to on the redistricting plan for our schools. It said to go to the Salisbury post Web site and “Opinions” and place your vote. I got online shortly after reading the paper. There was nowhere to place a vote.
Several e-mails later, I was told to just write in my opinion. If the Post is going to ask such a touchy question, it should follow through and let people vote.
My vote is NO to redistricting. A poll should be a simple yes or no. It should not consist of what I have gone through just to say NO. I’m sure you will find many others who feel the same way.
