The second annual Rowan County Jamboree will be held at North Rowan tonight.

West Rowan hosted the inaugural event last year.

All six Rowan county teams will be in action at North, along with West Iredell and West Stanly.

Teams aren’t matched up with teams they’re scheduled to play in the regular season.

The cost is $6.

The schedule

• Carson vs. West Stanly, 6 p.m.

• East Rowan vs. West Iredell, 7 p.m.

• Salisbury vs. West Rowan, 8 p.m.

• South Rowan vs. North Rowan, 9 p.m.

Legion baseball

Mid-Atlantic Regional champion Randolph County Post 45 won its first game in World Series pool play in Shelby on Thursday.

Randolph scored four runs in the sixth to beat Massachusetts 8-4.

Trevor Marsh had three hits for Randolph, while Braxton Davis had two RBIs.

Randolph returns to action on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. against North Dakota (0-1) on ESPNU.

In other games on Thursday, Louisiana clobberd Illinois 12-1; Missouri beat New Mexico 4-1, and Idaho beat North Dakota 7-3.

College football

Wesley Jefferies (North Rowan) has transferred from North Dakota to Division II  University of Minnesota Crookston.

Jefferies (6-4, 290) will be a defensive lineman for the Eagles. He played two years at Feather River College in California  before enrolling at North Dakota. He redshirted at North Dakota and is a junior as far as football eligibility.

Averett senior cornerback Ka’Seim Black (A.L. Brown) has earned USA South Academic All-Conference  three straight seasons.

Averett’s projected roster also includes junior defensive tackle Javon Lofton (West Rowan), sophomore running back Jaleel Webster (North Rowan) and freshman receiver Sam Wall (East Rowan).

MMA

In Rowan Fight Night 3 at the Fairgrounds, Chad “Kid Dangerous” Yard improved to 3-0 with a TKO of Carlos Castro Muro (1-2).

The cage fight was stopped on strikes in the second round.

Former Salisbury High athlete Dwayne Coward (2-0) won against Jhay Boyd (2-5) by TKO when the referee stopped the fight in the the third round.

Intimidators

KANNAPOLIS—  Rudy Martin homered and had two hits, and Charlie Neuweiler struck out 10 hitters over six innings as the Lexington Legends defeated the Kannapolis Intimidators 4-2 on Thursday.

Neuweiler (6-9) allowed two runs and four hits while walking three to pick up the win.

Kannapolis started the scoring in the first inning when Tyler Osik hit a two-run double.

The Legends took the lead for good with three runs in the third inning. Martin hit a solo home run en route to the one-run lead.

The Legends tacked on another run in the eighth when Reed Rohlman hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Nathan Eaton.

Jason Bilous (5-8) went three innings, allowing three runs and four hits in the SAL game.

He also struck out two and walked two.
