Rowan jobless rate up in October

Rowan County’s unemployment rate increased by a half percent in October to 13.3 percent, according to figures released today by the N.C. Employment Security Commission.
Jobless rates increased in 74 of North Carolina’s 100 counties.
In Rowan, unemployment had been 12.8 in September, dipping below 13 percent for the first time since April. The county’s unemployment peaked in July at 13.8 percent.
Rowan’s jobless rate in October was higher than in any surrounding county.
In Rowan 9,449 were unemployed out of a labor force totaling 71,300.
