SALISBURY — Healthy Rowan was presented the Novant Health Corporate Wellness Cup by the Rowan County Chamber of Commerce at the Dragon Boat Festival in July.
“Healthy Rowan represents collaborative strength of many community partners working together to identify and address health and quality-of-life issues in Rowan County,” said a news release from the Rowan Chamber of Commerce.
Healthy Rowan won the award through partnerships, bridging social needs and health, and a culture of health, the release said.
Executive Director Alyssa Smith said Healthy Rowan is appreciative of the award.
“It means so much to me personally, and to our coalition, to have the work we do together recognized,” Smith said in an email. “Community health is about making every single one of us healthier, together.”
Healthy Rowan was recognized for facilitating collaboration across agencies to improve health outcomes including the Daily Mile program in elementary schools of Rowan-Salisbury Schools; the Exercise Is Medicine program at the Community Care Clinic; and the Adventure Rowan (ARCHES) program through the Salisbury Parks and Recreation Department, Salisbury Pediatrics, and J.F. Hurley Family YMCA.
It also has supported local food resource agencies across the county including Rowan Helping Ministries, Jeannie’s Kitchen, Main Street Market in China Grove, and St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Rockwell.
“Support by Healthy Rowan allowed agencies to provide healthier foods to guests and neighbors. All are providing an invaluable resource of providing healthy food to those most in need,” the chamber’s news release said.
Healthy Rowan also recognized for bringing together city and county government, the health department and hospital system, and nonprofit and federally funded health care systems to promote health improvements in Rowan County.
