INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. óTwo Rowan County schools participated in competitions during the 82nd National FFA Convention held Oct. 21-24.
Members of the South Rowan High School FFA Chapter made up one of 28 teams participating in the 2009 National FFA Food Science and Technology Career Development Event.
Team members are Jessica Hilton, Meghan Massey, Dana Morrison and C.T. Welch. Their FFA adviser is Laura Hoffner. The team took a silver ranking, placing 17th overall. Hilton was 15th high scoring individual.
Participants were asked to take an objective test, design and formulate or reformulate a simulated food product, conduct nutritional analysis and apply food safety as well as sanitation principles.
The Food Science and Technology event is sponsored by Kraft Foods as a special project of the National FFA Foundation.
Members of the West Rowan High School FFA Chapter made up one of 31 teams participating in the Marketing Plan Career Development Event at the convention.
Team members are Leah Collins, Coleman Phifer and Erika Scott. Their FFA adviser is Jason Chester.
