Applications available for Summer Ventures
Applications for Summer Ventures in Science and Mathematics, a statewide program of residential institutes that provides enrichment and research opportunities to academically talented high school students, are now available from guidance counselors. The completed application form must be postmarked by Jan. 31.
The program is among the nation’s oldest and largest research-oriented summer programs for high school students. More than 11,500 students have been served by this program since it began 25 years ago.
The program, part of the University of North Carolina system and administered by the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics in Durham, includes four-week programs at six campus sites during June and July for rising juniors and seniors. No tuition or fees are charged for the program.
Admission is limited to students whose custodial parents or guardians are residents of North Carolina. Students are selected on the basis of criteria including academic motivation in science and mathematics and emotional maturity.
Sites include Appalachian State University in Boone, East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina Central University in Durham, University of North Carolina at Charlotte, University of North Carolina at Wilmington, and Western Carolina University in Cullowhee.
