Hospital to offer Fit for Motion in schools

Parents and siblings of Rowan-Salisbury School System second-graders in the Fit for Motion youth leadership program will begin meeting this week for Family Night at Rowan schools.
The program, was designed in response to the pediatric obesity epidemic identified by the American Academy of Pediatrics in 2003.
The program educates youth about healthy lifestyle behaviors and encourages youth leadership development. It incorporates exercise routines, talks on nutrition and other health topics and games to inspire participants to become healthy lifestyle role models for their classmates and family members.
The program is presented by Rowan Regional Medical Center, Presbyterian Novant Hearth & Wellness and the YMCA of Rowan County.
The following is the schedule for family nights, which begin Thursday Oct. 1 and end Oct. 20:
– Overton Elementary, Thursday, Oct. 1, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
– Shive Elementary, Tuesday, Oct. 6, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
– Isenberg Elementary, Tuesday, Oct. 6, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
– Millbridge Elementary, Thursday, Oct. 8, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
– Landis Elementary, Thursday, Oct. 15, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m.
– Granite Quarry Elementary, Tuesday, Oct. 20, 6:30 -7:30 p.m.
