RALEIGH ó N.C. Rep. Lorene Coates has been appointed to the House Select Committee on the Use of 911 Funds.
The committee will examine the use of the 911 Funds by Public Safety Answering Points. In conducting its study, the committee may:
– consider expanding the uses of the 911 funds to pay for a broad spectrum of needs at the answering points;
– consider provide more flexibility to local governments in the use of the funds;
– consider any report submitted by the North Carolina 911 Board on the use of the 911 Fund.
“I am pleased to have this opportunity to serve in such a key position,” Coates said. “This appointment will allow me to serve both the House of Representatives and the people of my district who have a strong interest in this important issue.”
The committee will also examine the funding needs, including, but not limited to:
– the lease or purchase of an additional communications tower, a multisite simulcast system, microwave connectivity between the sites, site monitoring and alarm system, and grounding and lightning protection;
– equipment for radio and telephone system upgrades, equipment for reverse 911,
– street sign maintenance; the lease, purchase, operation, and maintenance of consoles, communications equipment, radio or microwave towers and equipment.
