Coates to speak at Community Action meeting

The Salisbury-Rowan Community Action Agency Inc. is celebrating 45 years of service at its 45th annual board meeting Thursday with guest speaker N.C. Rep. Lorene Coates.
The Community Action Agency provides service to economically disadvantaged individuals and families in Rowan, Cabarrus, Davidson, Stanly, Moore and Montgomery counties. Its programs include: Head Start, Workforce Investment Act, Community Service Block Grant (Self-Sufficiency/Crisis Intervention) and Weatherization.
The agency is overseen by a Board of Directors that consists of public and private sector officials, early childhood education specialists and representatives for the low income community. The chairman of the board of directors is William “Pete” Kennedy.
Coates, Democratic representative for Rowan County, will be the guest speaker at the meeting. Coates has worked to bring jobs to the area and increase economic development and worker retraining programs.
