Staff report
Salisbury Police are investigating fraud involving a classified advertisement in the Salisbury Post.
A representative of the Post contacted police after discovering a ad seeking to hire a medical associate was placed fraudulently.
According to the police report, a person identifying himself as Dr. David Malloy placed the ad over the phone with instructions to bill Salisbury Orthopedic.
When the $122 bill for the ad was sent to the Salisbury Orthopedic, the company reported they didn’t have a Dr. Malloy. The phone number used in the advertisement turned up in numerous ads in an on-line search.
Anyone calling the number gets a recorded message.
Efforts to locate a Dr. David Malloy were unsuccessful.
