Authorities say a shooting this afternoon on Corriher Grange Road is related to an armed robbery that took place at the same home Tuesday night.
Two masked men and a woman robbed a couple at 220 Corriher Grange Road. Authorities at the scene of todayís shooting said the same men came back to the home today and exchanged gunfire with the homeowner and his son.
ěThis time, they were ready for them,î Chad Moose, an investigator with the Rowan County Sheriffís Office, said of the residents.
One of the suspects was shot and transported to Carolinas Medical Center by helicopter. His name and condition are unknown at this time.
John Deadmon, the son of resident John Randall Deadmon, was grazed in the head by a bullet and taken to Rowan Regional Medical Center.
Investigators initially believed another suspect may have been shot, but now say they donít believe he was. Soon after the shooting, authorities reported a female picked up the second suspect on N.C. 152.
The woman was found, along with the suspect’s vehicle and the weapon, at 2105 Brantley Road, Kannapolis.
While officers questioned the woman, an N.C. Highway Patrol helicopter searched the area of Brantley Road, looking for the suspect.
The second suspect has a Brantley Creek address, near Brantley Road in Kannapolis. Police are still searching for the man.
In the original robbery, John Randall Deadmon and Sherry Deadmon, of 220 Corriher Grange Road, told sheriff’s deputies that when John Deadmon went outside to get ice cream from a freezer in another building, he noticed three people at his gate.
Realizing he did not know them, he fled, but one of the men caught up and pushed him down. The second man, wearing a Halloween mask, ran into the house with a woman. They forced the couple to open their safe and stole cash, pistols, John Deadmon’s wallet and a cell phone.
Today, authorities said, the same two men came back and dragged John Randall Deadmonís son, John, inside the house. Thatís where they exchanged shots.
Sherry Deadmon was not home at the time.
