SALISBURY — The Arc of North Carolina announced Monday that the Arc of Rowan County will now be named the Arc of North Carolina’s Triad Region.

The Arc of Rowan name was dissolved on Sept. 1.

Shela Sapp, who transitioned from the executive director of the Arc of Rowan to regional director for the Arc of North Carolina’s Triad Region says the change will not affect services the agency provides.

The Arc of North Carolina provides advocacy and services to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Statewide, its priorities are ensuring a stable system of care; raising the graduation rate; providing more options and access to postsecondary education opportunities; transitioning into the workforce; help with housing and transportation; creating options for guardianship; and supporting ways to enable them to vote.

The office will remain at 108 Dorsett Drive in Salisbury, and the phone number remains 704-637-1521.

Sapp said the Arc board of directors wanted to ensure a continuation of services.

“The Arc/Rowan has been a valued subcontractor to the Arc of N.C. for many years as a service provider, and this made the transition relatively seamless. All employees of the chapter have successfully transitioned over to the Arc of N.C.’s team with no disruption in services for people supported whatsoever,” said John Nash, executive director of the statewide agency.

Sapp said the transition will allow Arc to expand advocacy efforts and serve more individuals. The Triad Region includes Rowan, Stanly, Cabarrus, Davidson and Forsyth counties. The regional agency is also reaching into Davie County.
