Letter: Think of environmental benefit lost from cut trees

According to an opinion column in Sunday’s Post by scientist and environmentalist Dr. Donald van der Vaart, (“Do something to help environment instead of striking”): “On average, one tree absorbs about 48 pounds of CO2 each year.”
According to information provided by “experts” from the more than 400-acre proposed solar farm for Neel Road, approximately 200 acres of trees would be cut for this endeavor. If there were 500 trees per acre, this would be 100,000 trees or 24,000 pounds of CO2 remaining because the trees were no long there.
Is this what we want?
