North Rowan Middle’s football team beat Knox  42-6 on Wednesday to finish a 7-0 season.

North outscored opponents 236-30.

Offensive leaders for the Mavericks were Michael Geter, T’sion Kelly, Jae’Mias Morrow, RJ “Odell” Moore, Timothy Thompson, Christopher Barringer, Ka’nijiea “Big Naj” McCoy, Anwar Davis and Saye Edwards.

Defensive leaders included Khor’on Miller, Shymeek Verdell, Zack Foster, Amir Alexander, Dameron Johnston and Linus Griffith.

Special teams leaders were Michael Strickland, Davion Williams and Mqwasi Walker.

Geter threw a 70-yard touchdown pass to Kelly to start the scoring on Wednesday and also had a 20-yard TD pass to Moore and a 35-yard scoring run.

Morrow scored two rushing touchdowns, including a 60-yarder. Verdell   had a 65-yard scoring run.

Moore intercepted a pass.

West Middle FB wins

West Rowan shut out Southeast, 2-0, in middle school football, last Thursday at Epps Field.

The Bulldogs were able to win the defensive struggle, thanks to a safety in the third quarter, when the Southeast quarterback was sacked in the end zone by Grayson Burleson and Diontaye Montgomery.

Jathan Roby stood out for the West defense with a pass interception and another pass breakup.

The Bulldogs’ offense was led by Jose Hernandez’ 57 yards rushing, which included two late first downs, keeping possession for West.

Southeast tried a last-second field goal that could have won the game, but it fell short.

West is 5-1 and plays at Mooresville in its final game of the season.

Mid. school softball

Mooresville beat Erwin in Wednesday’s softball championship game to finish a 17-0 season.

MVP Bella Noble hit a two-run homer for Mooresville in a 4-2 victory over the Eagles.

Erwin finished 14-4.

Cabarrus HOF

  The Cabarrus County Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2019 is a very strong one.

Induction ceremonies are set for Oct. 26 at 5 p.m. at the Concord Boys and Girls Club.

Nine inductees:

• Vernon Long was A.L. Brown’s first black basketball player and one of the stars of the 1967 and 1968 WNCHSAA championship teams. Long became the first black player at Lenoir-Rhyne and enjoyed a Hall of Fame career there, as well. He’ll be inducted by the Bears this Saturday.

• Tony McClamrock, standout football player at  Concord and  a Lenoir-Rhyne Hall of Famer

• Pat Moore, A.L. Brown football and wrestling standout, who went on to play at Appalachian State

• Larry Rucker, NW Cabarrus football, basketball and track and field standout

• Lester Smith, football standout at A.L. Brown, The Citadel and the CFL

• Mark Smith, A.L. Brown and N.C. State football standout

• Ralph Earnhardt (deceased), Kannapolis racing legend was named one of NASCAR’s  50 freatest drivers in 1998

•Bernie Edwards (deceased), Catawba grad was   outstanding football, baseball and basketball coach at NW Cabarrus

• Harold “Lug” Leazer (deceased), three-sport star at J.W. Cannon High in the 1930s who was killed in World War II

HS girls tennis

Lindsey Conrad, Maci Cooper, Carleigh Perry, Jadyn Kirkpatrick, Keeley Watson and Riley Isley won in singles as Carson beat West Rowan 9-0 in North Piedmont Conference girls tennis on Tuesday.

Conrad/Perry, Kirkpatrick/Cooper and Isley/Watson were winning doubles teams for the Cougars (14-0, 9-0).

Audrey Ward, Sarah Margaret Dyer, Syann Cooper, Jaysa Causby, Madison Brown and Caroline Burleyson won in singles for East Rowan in a 9-0 NPC win against Statesville.

Ward/Dyer, Cooper/Brooke Mitchell and Causby/Rebecca Reilly won in doubles for East (3-8, 2-7).

HS girls golf

East Rowan shot 122 and won the North Piedmont Conference golf on Wednesday at McCanless.

Medalist Carlee Patterson shot 38 to lead Mustangs. Lexie Miller, Emma Callahan and Anna Hester shot 42s.

Sophia Brown 43 led Carson. Kate Carter shot 47.

Gabrielle Blabon 49 led West Rowan.

Maggie Jolly shot 39 for South Iredell.

The Rowan County Championships will be held at McCanless on Oct. 15 at 12:30 p.m.

HS boys soccer

Carson won against East Rowan 3-1 in North Piedmont Conference soccer on  Wednesday.

East scored first, but Carson took a 2-1 halftime lead.

Osvaldo Ortiz, Jaxon Wheeler and Christopher Contreras scored for Carson.

Contreras and Ortiz had assists.

West Rowan lost to South Iredell 6-0 in North Piedmont Conference soccer on Wednesday.

Chris Mercado made 13 saves for the Falcons.

In Central Carolina Conference soccer on Wednesday, South Rowan (10-5, 6-4) won 3-1 against East Davidson.

South got goals from Dalton Baxter, Eber Tapia and Nathan Bollinger.

Parker Anderson made 10 saves.

Salisbury avenged an early-season loss to Thomasville with  a 7-3 Central Carolina Conference win against  the Bulldogs on Wednesday,

“The match was exceptionally physical and featured several hard fouls and yellow cards,” SHS coach Matt Parrish said.

The Hornets (8-5, 6-4)  got four goals from Joshua Portillo and single goals from Hugo Trujillo, Will Webb and Juan Salazar.

Assists were credited to Angel Quintero (2), Webb, Portillo and Colin Donalson.

Salisbury got excellent play from Axel Alejo, Gabriel Fuentes-Reyes, and Juan Garcia Cortez.

Salisbury hosts West Stanly at 6 p.m. on Thursday.
