NCDOT working on project to widen portions of Old Beatty Ford RoadStaff report
One of the most heavily traveled secondary roads in the county could be in for a major face lift.
The N.C. Department of Transportation is working on a project to widen Old Beatty Ford Road from U.S. 29 in Landis to Stokes Ferry Road.
The project would include widening the road, widening the shoulders, and moving the ditches.
“Old Beatty Ford Road has a tremendously high volume of traffic for a secondary road,” Pat Ivey, Division 9 engineer, said.
Highway officials are pointing to the volume of traffic, which includes a lot of commercial trucks, and the frequency of accidents.
Ivey said they are working to get federal dollars allocated for safety improvements.
During recent years, several of the intersections were improved using a special pot of state highway funds.
