Boyden class of 1954The Boyden High School class of 1954 celebrated its 55th reunion, Sept. 25 and 26. Around 55 classmates attended. Festivities began Friday evening with an open house at the home of Roy and Norma Campbell in Milford Hills.
The Holiday Inn was the scene of the dinner Saturday evening. Roy Campbell was the master of ceremonies and James Jarrell gave the invocation and led the remembrance of classmates no longer living.
Reminiscing with comical anecdotes, Ann Atwell Morris and Nancy Eagle Coggin provided entertainment along with the performance of Elvis impersonator, Michael Thomas, “Mailvis,” who sang Elvis Pressley songs.
A class photograph was taken by Charles Goldman. Reunion booklets, compliments of classmate, Betty Dan Nicholas Spencer, were distributed. Decorations, using the school colors of black and gold were provided by Mary Jane Smiley Thompson.Mack and Meetta Carlton Lampert were honored for their work through the years with the class.
Joe Ferebee, former teacher and coach; Pat Freese, widow of classmate, Bob Freese; and Betty Sue Whitman, widow of classmate, Gene Whitman, were special guests.

Piano Performance
Rebecca Agner, daughter of Dr. David and Sally Agner of Salisbury, performed at the North Carolina Music Teachers Association 2009 State Conference on Oct. 9 at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Agner played “Summer’s Dream” by Catherine Rollin at the Superiors Piano Recital.
A student of Tina Brown of Rockwell, Agner scored superior ratings at the district and state levels last spring. She is an eighth grader at Erwin Middle School, where she is on the National Junior Honors Society, the Christian Youth Club (CYC) and the tennis team.
She is a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Salisbury.
Granite Quarry reunion
The Granite Quarry High School class of 1944 met at the home of Frances Trexler in Granite Quarry for their 65th year reunion Oct. 3 at noon. They enjoyed a delicious dinner served by Frances and her daughter, Sonja Taylor.
After dinner, C.C. Caskey, president, conducted a business meeting. He welcomed all the guests and thanked Frances and the committee for their work planning the reunion.
The members reported on many of the sick who were unable to attend. Frances Trexler, secretary, read the minutes from the last year’s reunion.
She read an article, “If my body were a car, I would be thinking of trading it in as an old clunker.” She also shared “And it’s Winter Before We Know it.” The members played Chinese Bingo with gifts they brought.
Planning the event were the committee members C.C. and Dot Caskey, Madge and Gib Russell, Warren and Evelyn Morgan and Frances Trexler. Also attending were Ruth Shuping, M.L. and Ruth Wagoner of Swannanoa, Ray and Jane Ritchie of Kannapolis. Also Floyd and Jewel Elium and their son Chris and daughter Susan from Winston-Salem.
Rockwell reunion
The Rockwell High School class of 1945 celebrated their 64th class reunion on Saturday, Oct. 3 at Thyatira Presbyterian Church. Nineteen class members and 15 guests attended the luncheon and enjoyed the historic tour of the church ground and museum.
The tables were beautifully designed with large pots of mums which accentuated class colors of blue and gold.
Bill Sides gave the invocation before the meal. A memorial for the 19 deceased class mates was presided over by Jake Setzer, treasurer.
Class president, Glen Ray Holshouser, conducted the business meeting. After the meeting, door prizes were given out.
The date and location of the 2010 reunion will be decided at a later date.
