East Rowan High School’s Rifle A-Team took first place in the first rifle match of the year at the Rowan County Wildlife Association.
Teams from four counties participated. Cary High School of Wake County took second in the meet, and Anson County High School won third.
Individual trophies went to Franklin Wright, top overall shooter; Derrick Thompson, top prone shooter; and Jesse Jeffery, top kneeling shooter.
A-Team members are Commander Franklin Wright, Jesse Jeffery, Derrick Thompson and Joseph Scrip. B-Team members are Billy Sutherland, Thor Wright and Samuel Lakey. C-Team members are Miranda Harding, Amy Carlton, David Harwood and Brandon Gardner. East’s Rifle Team is coached by 1st Sgt. Richard Sisk.
ASU scholarships
Cameron Brady Frick has received a renewed $4,000 physical education-coaching scholarship and received a $500 Dottie Martin Teachers Scholarship for the 2009-2010 year.
Frick is a senior physical education and teaching education major at Appalachian State University, where he has a 3.5 grade point average. He earned the physical education-coaching scholarship his junior year, when he was on the dean’ list both semesters. He had to maintain a GPA of 2.8 for the renewal.
The teachers scholarship is given to three North Carolina college students majoring in education.
A 2005 graduate of East Rowan High School, Frick is the son of Janice and Jeff Safrit and Tad and Dodie Frick and the grandson of Bill and Mary Brady and Gerry Frick, all of Salisbury.
