Kannapolis police investigate attempted bank robbery

KANNAPOLIS ó Police are asking for help in identifying a man who attempted to rob a bank in Kannapolis on Tuesday.
Officers responded to a holdup alarm around noon at Wachovia Bank located at 1501 S. Cannon Blvd. where a man entered the bank, approached the counter and displayed a note demanding money.
According to police, he placed his hand into his pants pocket as if he was armed. No weapon was displayed.
The man became alarmed and fled the bank without any money.
The man is described as a white male, approximately 50 years of age, with a light-colored beard. At the time, he was wearing a white, buttoned, long-sleeve shirt, blue jeans, a black ball cap and glasses.
Police believe the suspect left the area in a late-model, white Ford F-150 pickup truck. Moments after the attempted robbery, a vehicle fitting this description was seen leaving the area.
